Steven Adams, Clint Capela Could Emerge As Trade Targets

Oct 30, 2019 10:42 AM

Steven Adams and Clint Capela are two centers who could become available on the trade market this season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have told interested teams they view Adams as part of their future for the time being. Adams is signed through the 20-21 season.

Capela was shopped in trade talks by the Houston Rockets during the offseason, but decided to keep him when they traded for Russell Westbrook. Capela could be made available again if the Rockets explore the trade market. Capela is signed through 2023.

Wolves Still Want To Upgrade Point Guard Position Via Trade

Oct 29, 2019 11:53 AM

The Minnesota Timberwolves pursued a sign-and-trade for D'Angelo Russell this past offseason and the point guard position remains an area of interest for the front office.

Jeff Teague is on the final season of his three-year, $55 million deal with the Wolves.

"They would love to get a point guard," said Adrian Wojnarowski on The Woj Pod. "They want to be a playoff team. I think they would love to upgrade that point guard position. If there's available point guards out there, they'll be (an interested) team.

"They tried to get D'Angelo Russell in a sign-and-trade situation. You watch some of the other point guards who might become available this year, they'll want to become involved there."

Teams Weren't Trying To Trade Up For Trae Young In 2018 Draft

Oct 29, 2019 11:17 AM

The Atlanta Hawks continued to have confidence in Trae Young during his struggles at Summer League and the start of last season before he emerged as one of the NBA's most promising young guards.

"There were so many questions about him among teams in the lottery," said Adrian Wojnarowski on The Woj Pod. "I think he would have went to Orlando at (No. 6) if he did drop to them, but there weren't teams, like, moving up to try to get him.

"I remember in that draft there were teams trying to get up to get Jaren Jackson at four from Memphis."

The Hawks received criticism for giving up on Luka Doncic as they were all-in on Young, but that gamble is beginning to make more sense.

Chris Paul Had Interest In Trade To Bucks

Oct 29, 2019 10:52 AM

The Oklahoma City Thunder had a limited trade market for Chris Paul after they acquired him with the intention to flip him to another team.

The Miami Heat were connected to a trade for Paul, but the Milwaukee Bucks were a franchise he wanted to join as they remain contenders built around the reigning MVP in Giannis Antetokounmpo.

"I had heard he wanted to go to Milwaukee," said Ryen Russillo on The Woj Pod. "Of course you'd want to go play with Giannis."

Paul has two seasons remaining on his four-year, $160 million deal.

Hawks' Ownership Still Would Do Trae Young-Luka Doncic Deal Again

Oct 27, 2019 12:07 PM

Tony Ressler says he and the Atlanta Hawks' front office would make the same decision they did in June of 2018 when they traded down from No. 3 and chose Trae Young and a future first round pick that became Cam Reddish from the Dallas Mavericks over Luka Doncic.

Both Young and Doncic had promising rookie seasons.

“I have to be honest, but I didn’t think Luka would be this good,” Ressler said prior to Saturday’s game. “I didn’t think Trae was going to be this good. They are both better than I expected. I think they’re both really special players and have a shot to be for a really long time if they stay focused. I think this trade is going to have a nice, long history of discussion. I wouldn’t completely, again, declare success or whether we won it or lost it today because I do think both teams have someone they can really help build around for years and years to come.”

The Hawks feel they have the makings of a long-term core now with Young as the centerpiece, John Collins, Kevin Huerter, De’Andre Hunter, Reddish and Bruno Fernando.

Domantas Sabonis addressed rumors that the Indiana Pacers have explored trading him, saying that he's going to let his agents handle the situation.

“There’s not really much to talk about. I know exactly how the Pacers feel about me now. They know how I feel about that and there’s not much more to say. Let my agents do the rest of it and we’ll see what happens," Sabonis told Scott Agness of The Athletic.

The Athletic reported that the Pacers have engaged in trade discussions with multiple teams for Sabonis.

Sabonis, who is in the final year of his contract, will make $3.5 million this season.

Andre Iguodala Expected To Pick Between Lakers, Clippers If Bought Out

Oct 11, 2019 11:41 AM

Andre Igudoala remains away from the Memphis Grizzlies as they pursue trade scenarios involving him. Igoudala is expected to end up with the Los Angeles Lakers or Los Angeles Clippers if he becomes a free agent.

"It's the two L.A. teams," said Adrian Wojnarowski. "It's the Lakers and it's the Clippers. If there is a buyout at some point. If Memphis can't trade him, it will come down to those two teams."

Wojnarowski adds Iguodala is comfortable sitting out the early part of the season at his age.

Kyle Lowry Considered Easier Trade After Signing One-Year Extension With Raptors

Oct 11, 2019 11:37 AM

Kyle Lowry signed a one-year, $31 million extension with the Toronto Raptors, taking him off the free agent market next offseason. But Lowry could still be moved by the Raptors depending on how their season plays out.

"A lot of the reason Toronto signed him to the deal (is) he is easier to trade under contract for next year at $31 million," said Adrian Wojnarowski.

"Absolutely," replied Zach Lowe.

"At the trade deadline, there could be an exodus from their championship core."

Wojnarowski and Lowe combined to suggest that the Miami Heat, Detroit Pistons, Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Clippers could be potential trade suitors for Lowry.

Oklahoma City's Plan Was To Flip Chris Paul In Another Trade

Oct 11, 2019 11:10 AM

Chris Paul is a player that can still play at a very high level, but the fact he is owed $120 million over the next three seasons makes his value on the trade issue more complicated.

The Houston Rockets had to attach multiple draft picks to trade Paul to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Russell Westbrook, who also is on a contract widely considering onerous.

"When Oklahoma City got him this summer, their plan was to try to flip him somewhere else," said Adrian Wojnarowski on a podcast with Zach Lowe. "They hoped Miami would be willing to talk about a deal and that never got anywhere. But maybe the Heat get off to a bad start. Maybe they look at this again. And other teams."

Oklahoma City could potentially start Paul alongside two other point guards in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dennis Schroder.

Execs: Trade Market Currently Deadest They Can Remember In Years

Oct 9, 2019 9:08 PM

One consequence of the NBA's shorter average contract lengths is a lighter trade market until December 15th when players who signed free agent deals in the preceding offseason become eligible for trades.

The future of Bradley Beal with the Washington Wizards is one of the only possible trades on teams radars.

"Right now, from what I understand, there's almost no trade talks going on," said Brian Windhorst. "Like nothing. It's the deadest it has been that executives can remember in years. Most because like a third of the league just signed and there's just not many trade eligible guys.

"But I was talking to a team, 'Yeah, somebody called us about one of our Two-Way guys. We've never had a conversation about a Two-Way guy.'

"Part of that is it's a little bit dead in the NBA right now, but there's definitely Bradley Beal discussions already going on."
