Kings Confident They're On Same Page As Buddy Hield

Nov 30, 2020 7:25 PM

The Sacramento Kings are confident they are on the same page with Buddy Hield.

“I’ve talked with Buddy as well as his agent, and I think we’re all on the same page, and I think we’re really excited to see Buddy kind of let free in this system. I think he’s going to be fantastic,” Monte McNair said.

Hield signed a four-year, $86 million contract extension before the 19-20 season, but was demoted by Luke Walton to a backup role in favor of Bogdan Bogdanovic. The Kings chose not to match an offer sheet Bogdanovic signed with the Atlanta Hawks.

“I think I’ve said in the past Buddy’s such an incredible talent and especially his shooting at an elite level is something that we saw this offseason was at a premium,” McNair said. “I think we’re really excited to see him in this system and obviously with coach Walton as well as Alvin and Rex and the system they’re going to implement, I think Buddy’s going to look really good in it. I’m excited to see him in training camp and how he can progress there. I think I have the utmost confidence Buddy will continue to play hard every night as he always has.”

Knicks Acquire Sergio Llull's Draft Rights In Austin Rivers Sign-And-Trade With Rockets

Nov 27, 2020 12:57 PM

The New York Knicks have acquired the draft rights to Sergio Llull, Tadija Dragicevic and Alex Hervelle as part of an Austin Rivers sign-and-trade.

The Knicks sent the draft rights to Issuf Sanon to the Rockets.

Llull's current contract with Real Madrid expires after the current season but he hasn't shown any interest in moving to the NBA.

Llull was the 34th overall pick in the 2009 draft and just turned 33. The Rockets bought his draft rights for $2.25 million.

The Rockets nearly signed Llull in 2015 with an offer of nearly $24 million.

At Least One Rival Team Filed Formal Complaint On Bogdan Bogdanovic Deal

Nov 25, 2020 11:22 AM

At least one rival team filed a formal complaint to the NBA league office on Wednesday regarding the Milwaukee Bucks' reported sign-and-trade for Bogdan Bogdanovic, sources tell Eric Fischer of Bleacher Report.

The league informed both the Bucks and Sacramento Kings that afternoon that it would open an investigation into the alleged sign-and-trade already being agreed to between the parties.

Bogdanovic's camp insisted they never discussed the particulars of an agreement with Bucks officials and that they were only made aware of the negotiations. Bogdanovic even let Giannis Antetokounmpo and Thannis Antetokounmpo know he had never agreed to a contract with the Bucks.

The Bucks and Kings agreed to a framework of a sign-and-trade with Donte DiVincenzo, Ersan Ilyasova and D.J. Wilson going to Sacramento in exchange for Bogdanovic and Justin James. The Bucks would have then become free to negotiate a contract with Bogdanovic when free agency opened on Friday.

All the players included within the trade framework were notified.

Bucks, Pacers Discussed Donte DiVincenzo, George Hill, No. 24 For Victor Oladipo

Nov 25, 2020 11:12 AM

The Milwaukee Bucks pursued a trade for Victor Oladipo this offseason, but the Indiana Pacers ultimately declined their advances.

The two sides discussed a trade of Donte DiVincenzo, George Hill and the No. 24 pick in the 2020 draft.

The Bucks eventually traded Hill and the No. 24 pick to the New Orleans Pelicans for Jrue Holiday.

DiVincenzo was included in the sign-and-trade for Bogdan Bogdanovic that eventually was called off.

Giannis Antetokounmpo's Preferred Offseason Addition Was Bogdan Bogdanovic

Nov 25, 2020 11:24 AM

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Thanasis Antetokounmpo stayed in regular contact with Bogdan Bogdanovic over the past few months, sources tell Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.

They spoke numbers times over the phone and during a few calls Giannis communicated his desire to become teammates with Bogdanovic.

"Giannis admired his fellow European's toughness and swagger, sources" tell Fischer.

There was tremendous confidence within the Bucks that Antetokounmpo would sign the supermax when it appeared the team would trade for Jrue Holiday and also acquire Bogdanovic.

"There has since been a categorical step back in that confidence, even if Antetokounmpo does ultimately accept the franchise's offer of a five-year, $228 million supermax extension," writes Fischer.

Early conversations with the Sacramento Kings centered on Eric Bledsoe and the No. 24 pick. The Kings insisted on Donte DiVincenzo being included, just as the Indiana Pacers had with their Victor Oladipo talks.

Bogdanovic was communicated as Antetokoumpo's preferred addition all offseason.

Because the Bucks used the contracts of Bledsoe and George Hill to acquire Holiday, they would be more limited in what they could offer Bogdanovic in a sign-and-trade.

Hornets, Celtics Discuss Converting Gordon Hayward To Sign-And-Trade

Nov 25, 2020 11:06 AM

The Charlotte Hornets and Boston Celtics have worked on a Gordon Hayward sign-and-trade that's contingent on finding a third team to take on the $27 million owed to Nic Batum for 20-21.

The Hornets will have to waive and stretch Batum in order to sign Hayward outright. Batum's remaining $27 million would remain on Charlotte's books as $9 million in each of the next three seasons.

The Celtics previously discussed a sign-and-trade involving Hayward with the Indiana Pacers, who didn't have a path to sign him outright.

Hayward and the Hornets agreed to a four-year, $120 million deal last week, which will remain unchanged either way.

Pistons Called Wizards To Discuss Blake Griffin For John Wall Trade

Nov 25, 2020 8:08 AM

The Detroit Pistons made "an exploratory call" to the Washington Wizards in recent weeks to discuss a potential trade of Blake Griffin for John Wall, sources tell Zach Lowe of ESPN.

Those talks didn't go anywhere and Detroit's level of interest is unclear. The Pistons continue to value Griffin.

Tommy Sheppard of the Wizards maintained this week that they don't have interest in trading Wall.

Wall is signed for one more season than Griffin, suggesting the Pistons would likely ask for draft assets in any trade.

Wall has also been linked with a trade to the Houston Rockets for Russell Westbrook.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Could Sign Supermax With Implicit Right For Trade In Future

Nov 25, 2020 7:54 AM

For multiple weeks before the Milwaukee Bucks secured a trade for Jrue Holiday and a presumed sign-and-trade for Bogdan Bogdanovic, Marc Stein of the New York Times writes "there had been promising rumblings in league circles that [Giannis] Antetokounmpo was prepared to sign the extension."

Antetokounmpo is eligible for a supermax extension this offseason in which he can sign a five-year deal for 35 percent of the salary cap worth $230 million. If Antetokounmpo were to sign a shorter deal with the Bucks or with a rival team in 2021, it would be for 30 percent of the cap.

"A belief was building that Antetokounmpo was likely to opt for immediate financial security by signing before the season and quietly reserving the right to try to force a trade later if he was unhappy, as [Paul] George did one season after re-signing in Oklahoma City," adds Stein in his reporting.

The Bucks have been emphatic that they would not consider trading Antetokounmpo if he declines to sign the supermax.

Rival Teams Expect Clippers To Trade Lou Williams

Nov 25, 2020 1:10 AM

Teams around the league expect the Los Angeles Clippers to trade Lou Williams, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.

"They went into the off-season determined to make dramatic chemistry changes after a humbling second-round playoff exit to Denver. They upgraded from Harrell — who team officials quietly decided had to go — by luring Serge Ibaka away from Toronto.

"The additions of Ibaka and Luke Kennard (via trade with Detroit) are just the beginning; many rival teams also expect the Clippers to trade Lou Williams in their quest to create a fresh-start environment after they blew a 3-1 series lead to the Nuggets," wrote Stein.

The Clippers had reportedly explored a trade for Terry Rozier with an aim to upgrade the point guard position.
