Sources Believe Julius Randle's Behavior Indicates He'd Like Trade From Knicks

Mar 30, 2022 10:35 AM

The New York Knicks are expected by some NBA sources to shop Julius Randle in a trade for a package revolving around a center if they lose Mitchell Robinson.

Some around the NBA believe Randle is acting in a “James Harden type of way” to suggest he would like to leave the Knicks.

Sources say the lack of leadership from Randle has hurt the Knicks this season. One source said Randle sometimes dresses by himself in another area of the locker room.

The Knicks and Randle signed a four-year, $117 million extension last August.

Portland's Pursuit Of Jerami Grant Could Hinge On Pelicans Missing Playoffs

Mar 21, 2022 11:55 AM

The Portland Trail Blazers are expected to seriously pursue a trade with the Detroit Pistons for Jerami Grant this offseason.

The Blazers will explore trading away the New Orleans Pelicans' 2022 first round pick, which they will own if it falls between Nos. 5 and 14 in the draft. If the Pelicans reach the playoffs, their first round pick will instead be conveyed to the Charlotte Hornets.

If the Blazers do not own that pick, their ability to trade for Grant will be far more difficult.

Grant is eligible for a four-year, $112 million extension this offseason.

Grant and Damian Lillard were teammates on Team USA last summer.

Heat Considered Legitimate Suitor For Bradley Beal

Mar 21, 2022 10:10 AM

The Miami Heat are viewed as a legitimate suitor for Bradley Beal should he seek an exit from the Washington Wizards this offseason, multiple sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Miami would need to complete a sign-and-trade in order to acquire Beal from the Wizards. The Philadelphia 76ers also did their due diligence on a potential trade for Beal.

Across the NBA, however, there is an expectation that Beal will ultimately decide to re-sign with the Wizards. Every year, Beal and his representatives evaluate the landscape with the Wizards and options elsewhere while so far always remaining with the franchise that drafted him in 2012.

Beal is eligible for a five-year, $245.6 million deal that the Wizards are committed to making.

Kemba Walker Could Return To Hornets

Mar 18, 2022 9:12 AM

Kemba Walker has been training in Charlotte and New York while he remains away from the New York Knicks. Walker could possibly return to the Charlotte Hornets this offseason.

Walker signed a two-year, $18 million deal with the Knicks during the 2021 offseason and is more likely to be traded near the draft than bought out.

Asked if Walker has been at the Tarrytown facility, Tom Thibodeau said, “No, he’s away from the team. That’s the way it is. He’s rehabbing, taking care of what he has to take care of.’’

Thibodeau said Walker is not working with team trainers.

“No, he’s away from the team,’’ Thibodeau said. “And that was agreed upon. Our management, his agent and Kemba, we just felt that was the best way to handle it.’’

Knicks Seeking Extra Draft Compensation Led To Unraveling Of Trade With Lakers, Raptors

Mar 16, 2022 5:24 PM

The New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Toronto Raptors discussed a three-team trade ahead of the deadline, but sources tell Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report that the talks fell apart when the Knicks sought more draft compensation.

The deal was centered on Cam Reddish and Alec Burks to the Lakers, Talen Horton-Tucker and Nerlens Noel going to the Raptors, while the Knicks would have acquire Goran Dragic plus Toronto's 2022 first round pick.

"They are always trying to squeeze out an extra second-round pick here and an extra second-round pick there," said a high-ranking Eastern Conference executive.

The Raptors eventually traded Dragic and a first round pick to the San Antonio Spurs for Thaddeus Young and a second round pick.

Mavericks Sought Goran Dragic, Gary Trent From Raptors For Kristaps Porzingis

Mar 4, 2022 2:09 PM

Before the Dallas Mavericks traded Kristaps Porzingis to the Washington Wizards for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans at the deadline, they attempted to send him to the Toronto Raptors in a deal for Goran Dragic and Gary Trent Jr.

While the Mavericks hoped Porzingis would be a second star to pair with Luka Doncic, it never played out that way on the floor.

"They tried to trade him to Toronto," said Tim MacMahon on The Lowe Post. "My understanding is their discussions there were Dragic and Gary Trent. Toronto understandably said 'We're not giving up Gary Trent Jr.'

"So the Washington thing came together. And the Mavericks basically got to the point of 'Hey, financially it's a wash, but it's two smaller contracts that would be easier to move.' And they felt K.P. was kind of in the way and those two guys could fill roles off the bench, so they pulled the trigger as soon as they found a deal where they didn't have to give up a first round pick. A lot of that was the fit with K.P. wasn't there. It doesn't mean Porzingis necessarily did anything wrong. The Mavericks took a huge swing and a miss on him. It didn't work out.

"Ultimately, I do think there's a ceiling on a one-star team. You have to go all the way back, ironically, to the Dirk Mavericks to find a one-star NBA champion. But you know, if there's a guy who is going to do it, it's a dude like Luka."

Executives Expect 76ers To Explore Tobias Harris Trade In Offseason

Mar 2, 2022 4:05 PM

Prior to the trade deadline and their deal for James Harden, there were reports that the Philadelphia 76ers were gauging potential offseason trades involving Tobias Harris to clear cap space. The urgency for a Harris trade is no longer necessary

"As I've talked to league executives, because I'm asking league executives a lot about Philadelphia," said Brian Windhorst on his podcast. "And everybody has seen them for a brief period of time, but they're are already speculating what Tobias Harris trades they might look at this summer."

This offseason, Harris will have two years remaining on his five-year, $180 million max contract signed in 2019.

The value of Harris as an offensive weapon has decreased following the acquisition of Harden.
