Rockets, Cavaliers, Thunder Considered NBA's Only True Sellers Entering Deadline Period

Feb 25, 2021 10:55 PM

With the NBA expanding its playoff format and a crowd of teams right around .500, there are only a limited number of teams that will look to sell pieces ahead of the trade deadline.

"They're selling," said Tim MacMahon regarding the Houston Rockets. "They're definitely selling."

"The only teams that are truly selling are Houston, Cleveland and Oklahoma City," interjected Tim MacMahon. "Everybody else is ether not going either way, like probably a team like Detroit, or trying to make the playoffs."

The Cavaliers are aggressively shopping Andre Drummond, while the Rockets could make Victor Oladipo available. The Thunder, meanwhile, have traded away a number of their veterans over the past few months as they begin a full rebuild.

Wolves' 2021 FRP Owned By Warriors, Michael Porter Jr. Considered Two Most Valuable Trade Assets

Feb 25, 2021 10:17 AM

The 2021 first round pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves owned by the Golden State Warriors and Michael Porter Jr. are widely considered the two most valuable trade assets on the market.

The Warriors acquired the top-3 protected pick from Minnesota as part of the D'Angelo Russell for Andrew Wiggins trade.

Denver has so far been reluctant to trade Porter in their conversations for Jrue Holiday and James Harden. It remains to be seen whether the Nuggets would reverse course should Bradley Beal come to market.

Zach LaVine's Extension Would Be $51M Less Than Waiting For 2022 Free Agency

Feb 25, 2021 10:24 AM

Zach LaVine will become eligible to sign an extension with the Chicago Bulls in the offseason, but it will be limited to a four-year, $104 million contract. If LaVine waits until free agency in 2022, he could sign a four-year, $155 million deal with a rival team.

The reality of LaVine's extension situation means the Bulls will almost certainly have to wait for him to become a free agent for his future to be settled, which could make them more strongly consider a trade than they would otherwise.

LaVine made his first All-Star Game this season.

76ers, Heat, Clippers Interested In Trading For Kyle Lowry

Feb 25, 2021 10:01 AM

The Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers have interest in trading Kyle Lowry, sources tell Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

A source says Lowry's preference is to play for the 76ers and that they might be able to get a deal done with the Toronto Raptors.

Lowry is on an expiring contract after nine seasons with the Raptors.

According to a source, the Raptors would like to reward Lowry for his years of service with the team by giving him an opportunity to compete for another title.

Lowry is a native of Philadelphia and would give the 76ers a perimeter playmaker.

The Clippers, meanwhile, would allow Lowry to reunite with Kawhi Leonard and Serge Ibaka. Lowry is also close friends with Ty Lue and Chauncey Billups.

In free agency, Lowry will seek a contract of $60 million over two years.

Celtics Not Considering Replacing Danny Ainge, Brad Stevens

Feb 24, 2021 11:12 PM

The Boston Celtics are 15-17 and currently are tied with the New York Knicks and Miami Heat for the final two seeds in the Eastern Conference playoffs, but Wyc Grousbeck has gone on record to say the jobs of Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens are not in jeopardy.

“I talk to Danny and Brad all the time, I feel very connected to those guys,” Grousbeck said.

Grousbeck touted the development of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum as things

"I'm the one who has to make the decision. I'm the one who has to live with the change. Either one of those guys would immediately be the top candidate for the job. It doesn't matter just about who else it out there. They're our guys and we're sticking with them. It was not even a question in my mind."
