The Philadelphia 76ers have emerged as the frontrunners to sign DeAndre Jordan either as a waiver claim or a free agent signing.
The Sixers have been aggressive in pursuing a backup center since trading Andre Drummond to the Brooklyn Nets as part of the James Harden trade.
Jordan, who signed a one-year, $2.6 million minimum deal to join the Lakers this season, would save the Sixers $2.3 million in luxury tax if he signed a free agent deal instead of getting claimed on waivers.
The 76ers have an open roster spot to sign Jordan.
The Los Angeles Lakers will waive DeAndre Jordan to sign DJ Augustin.
The Lakers wanted to add a veteran point guard with shooting ability to back up Russell Westbrook.
The New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to sign Alize Johnson to a 10-day contract.
Johnson played for the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards earlier this season.
Johnson has appeared in 68 career games since the 18-19 season.
The Toronto Raptors announced Monday they have signed forward D.J. Wilson to a third 10-day contract.
The Raptors originally signed Wilson to a 10-day contract Dec. 23, then a second 10-day deal Jan. 7 – both via the COVID hardship exception.
Wilson, 6-foot-10, 231 pounds, averaged 8.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 16.0 minutes in three games during his first two stints with the Raptors. He recorded 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and a career-high five steals Dec. 26 at Cleveland.
Wilson has also appeared in 31 games (23 starts) with the Oklahoma City Blue in the NBA G League this season. He is averaging 17.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 27.8 minutes. Wilson is shooting .530 (214-404) from the field, has scored 20+ points 12 times and recorded 17 double-doubles with the Blue. He set career highs with 37 points Jan. 29 at Agua Caliente and 17 rebounds Feb. 9 vs. Sioux Falls.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said that the city's vaccine mandates will lift on March 7, provided there are no surprises with case numbers over the next week. That puts Kyrie Irving one step closer to being able to play in home games.
However, there is still a private sector mandate in place that would prevent Irving from playing. Essentially, employees who do work in the presence of other employees in the private sector must have at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to work on-site. There hasn't been an indication of when that mandate may change.
Still, with the loosening of some mandates, it appears Irving is closer to being able to play in Nets home games. Brooklyn recently announced that newly acquired forward Ben Simmons is going to continue to be out as he rehabs a back injury. Kevin Durant also remains out, as he recovers from a knee injury.
The Miami Heat have signed forward Haywood Highsmith to a 10-day contract.
Highsmith, who was previously signed to a 10-day contract by the Heat on December 30 and again on February 15, has appeared in six games with Miami this season totaling 22 points, nine rebounds and a block while shooting 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from the field and 40 percent (6-of-15) from three-point range. He has also appeared in 17 G League games (11 starts) with the Delaware Blue Coats this season and averaged 13.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.24 steals and 29.8 minutes while shooting 49.4 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from three-point range.
Armoni Brooks has signed with the College Park Skyhawks of the G League.
Brooks was waived by the Houston Rockets at the trade deadline to complete their 3-for-1 trade with the Boston Celtics.
Brooks turned down several Two-Way offers and he could still return to the Rockets.
The Stockton Kings have signed Quinn Cook.
Cook has accrued career averages of 6.4 points (.461 FG%, .408 3pt%, .795 FT%), 1.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 14.1 minutes per game in 188 games (29 starts) over the course of five seasons for five teams: Dallas Mavericks (2016-17), New Orleans Pelicans (2016-17), Golden State Warriors (2017-19), Los Angeles Lakers (2019-21) and Cleveland Cavaliers (2020-21).
After Cook was waived by the Blazers during the preseason, he played for Lokomotiv Cuban in Russia until the end of 2021.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed guard Tim Frazier to a 10-day contract.
