Nick Young Undecided On $5.7M Player Option With Lakers

Mar 31, 2017 2:18 PM

Nick Young might opt out of his $5.7 million player option for the 17-18 season after he rebuilt his value with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers considered using the stretch provision on Young last offseason, which seemed like a good idea at the time but would have been a mistake considering how well he's played.

Young is averaging 13.2 points on 40.4 percent shooting.

“I got a chance to play and show Nick Young again after going through everything I went through,” Young said. “That’s the best part of everything, being able to play. You think you won’t be in the league last year. Then you start 60 games.”

Young and his agent haven't decided what they'll do but he would prefer to stay with the Lakers.

“It’s L.A. I’m from here, family is here,” Young said. “I’ve been here for four years.”

Exec: Jimmy Butler 'As Good As Gone'

Mar 30, 2017 11:08 AM

During the lead up to the trade deadline, Jimmy Butler and Paul George were discussed by teams. Both the Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers are in limbo between true contender status and rebuilding.

According to one front office source that spoke with The Ringer, Butler is "as good as gone."

Butler has a player option in which he can become a free agent in 2019, while George can opt for free agency in 2018.

There were a number of teams interested in both players at the deadline with the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets perhaps in the best place to make a blockbuster offer for either Butler or George without completely gutting their team.

Carmelo Anthony 'At Peace' With Reduced Role

Mar 30, 2017 1:39 AM

Carmelo Anthony said he's "at peace" with playing a lesser role for the remainder of the season to allow the team to take a longer look at its younger players.

"I see the writing on the wall. I see what it is," Anthony said late Wednesday night. "I see what they're trying to do and it's just me accepting that. That's what puts me at peace. Just knowing and understanding how things work. I'm at peace with that."

The New York Knicks were eliminated from playoff contention on Wednesday.

"I don't think me going out there, trying to score 30 and 40 every night and playing that way is going to help them out at this point. I think it's more about getting that experience, and letting them go out there and play through that right now," Anthony said after failing to score in double figures for just the third time all season. "It's challenging, but I think it's for the greater good for everybody on this team."

The Knicks are expected to revisit a trade involving Anthony this offseason but he also owns a full no-trade clause.

Brent Barry has received interest from NBA teams over the past few seasons for both coaching and managerial roles.

Barry has told interested teams his current plan is to spend as much time as possible with his school-aged children over the next few years.

Barry is believed to prefer a route that would allow him to begin working in a front office before moving to a coaching role as Steve Kerr did with the Phoenix Suns before returning to broadcasting and eventually joining the Golden State Warriors as head coach.

Barry played for the likes of Gregg Popovich and Rick Adelman during his career.
