Warriors Could Face $300M In Combined Salary, Tax By 19-20

May 31, 2017 6:34 PM

The Golden State Warriors could have a completely unprecedented level of salary and luxury tax in the coming seasons.

Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are each expected to sign for 35 percent max contracts as soon as this offseason, or the 2018 offseason in the case of Durant.

Draymond Green and Klay Thompson will also likely sign new max contracts in the coming seasons.

By 19-20 and 20-21, the Warriors' combined salary and tax could equal $300 million per season.

The Warriors move into a new arena in downtown San Francisco in time for the 19-20 season.

Bucks Interested In Wilcox, Stefanski, Dinwiddie, Karnisovas For GM Job

May 31, 2017 10:31 AM

The Milwaukee Bucks have been granted permission to interview several front office candidates as they look to fill their general manager vacancy.

John Hammond departed the Bucks last week to join the Orlando Magic with Justin Zanik acting as interim GM.

Milwaukee made calls on Tuesday to inquire about Indiana vice president of basketball operations Peter Dinwiddie, Denver assistant GM Arturas Karnisovas, Memphis Grizzlies VP of player personnel Ed Stefanski and Atlanta Hawks special adviser to ownership Wes Wilcox.

Stefanski and Wilcox both were general managers in the NBA. Stefanski was GM of the Philadelphia 76ers (2007-11) and Wilcox was with the Hawks (2015-17).

Dinwiddie and Karnisovas have emerged as two of the NBA’s most respected young front-office executives.

Blazers Willing To Attach First Round Pick To Dump Salary

May 31, 2017 2:23 AM

The Portland Trail Blazers own three first round picks this year and are willing to part ways with one of them in order to remove one of their unwanted contracts from their books, according to a source.

The Blazers have no pending free agents this offseason and face a numbers crunch with their roster in addition to a significant luxury tax payment.

The Blazers re-signed Allen Crabbe, Meyers Leonard and Maurice Harkless last offseason, while also adding Evan Turner and Festus Ezeli in free agency. The Blazers will waive Ezeli in the offseason.

Clippers Interested In Hiring Jerry West

May 31, 2017 1:53 AM

The Los Angeles Clippers have interest in hiring Jerry West in an advisory position similar to the one he currently has with the Golden State Warriors.

West is under contract with the Warriors until July and has been asked by Joe Lacob to remain on a new deal.

"We want [West] back," Lacob told the Mercury News' Tim Kawakami. "We love him. He's been a great contributor to the organization, someone I consider a personal friend, as well. We would love him back, and we've made that known."

The Clippers face an uncertain offseason due to the free agencies of Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and J.J. Redick. If the Clippers were able to hire West away from the Warriors, it would represent a significant coup for the franchise.

Nick Kerr To Join Spurs As Video Coordinator

May 30, 2017 7:42 PM

Nick Kerr, son of Steve Kerr, will join the San Antonio Spurs this offseason in a video role.

Kerr played collegiately at UC San Diego before transferring to Cal as a graduate student.

With Steve Kerr not on the sidelines during the playoffs, he's been watching the games with Nick.

"He’s been at pretty much every practice the last two postseasons–once the Cal season ended the last two years he just came down and rebounded and watched film with our staff. So he’s getting a pretty good education here," said Steve Kerr.

Nick Kerr will work for Gregg Popovich, who coached Steve Kerr as a player.

"It’s good for him to go out and do his own thing; pretty good opportunity to go work for the best in the business," said Steve Kerr.

We’re going to miss him."

Steve Kerr Confirms He Plans To Coach Next Season

May 30, 2017 7:36 PM

While Steve Kerr may be unable to coach again this season, he remains committed to continuing his career on the sidelines as soon as he is physically capable.

"Hell yeah," said Kerr when asked if he will definitely coach again at some point.

"You know, it’s a little trickier, since this has been going on. I sort of assumed all last year that by the summer I’d get this thing knocked out.

"It’s been kind of a mystery and that’s what so frustrating. But I have every intention to coach for a long time. It’s scary stuff and still hoping for a better resolution to it."

Kerr was asked if he will be coaching at the start of next season no matter what happens in The Finals.

"That’s the plan. But what’s the date–it’s May 30. I can’t promise anything, neither can Bob (Myers). We have to figure everything out this summer.

"It’s a very unique situation, a very difficult situation for me personally and for Bob and Joe. It’s probably unprecedented.

"One thing I know is that we’ll all work together. They’re going to want to do what’s best for me, I’m going to want to do what’s best for them. We’ll figure out whatever that is."

Kerr became head coach of the Golden State Warriors in 2014 and has dealt with back issues since 2015.

Pistons Interested In Trading No. 12 Pick For Established Player

May 30, 2017 3:54 PM

The Detroit Pistons have interest in trading the 12th overall pick in exchange for an established player.

The Pistons received little production out of their first round picks from the past two seasons during the 16-17 season as Stanley Johnson and Henry Ellenson struggled to make an impact.

Stan Van Gundy is entering his fourth season with the Pistons and the team has made just one playoff appearance.

Nerlens Noel Could Receive Multiple Max Offers In Free Agency

May 30, 2017 1:51 PM

Nerlens Noel could receive multiple max contract offers in free agency, according to a source.

The Dallas Mavericks traded for Noel at the deadline and hope to keep him in restricted free agency.

A starting salary at the max contract would be approximately $25 million.

The free agent market for centers have been difficult to calibrate as supply has outpaced demand, but Noel is young and a game changer on defense.
