Bob Ociepka has been hired by the Clippers to serve as an assistant coach on Vinny Del Negro’s staff for the 2012-13 season.

Ociepka, 63, has worked in the NBA for 22 years and brings over 30 years of coaching experience to the Clippers sideline. The Chicago native returns to Los Angeles for his second stint with the Clippers after serving as an assistant coach from 1993-96 under Bob Weiss and Bill Fitch. Ociepka was an assistant coach for Del Negro with the Chicago Bulls from 2008-10.

For the past two seasons, Ociepka was an assistant coach on the staff of Nate McMillan and Kaleb Canales in Portland. In his 22 year NBA coaching career, Ociepka has worked for a total of nine teams, also spending time with the Minnesota Timberwolves (2006-08), Milwaukee Bucks (2003-04 – 2005-06), Detroit Pistons (1998-99, 2001-03), Cleveland Cavaliers (1999-2001), Philadelphia 76ers (1996-97) and Indiana Pacers (1989-90 – 1992-93).

The Washington Wizards announced that Don Newman will join Randy Wittman’s staff as an assistant coach.

Newman brings more than 20 years of coaching experience to the Wizards’ staff, including the past seven seasons as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs. During his successful tenure with the Spurs, Newman worked under Gregg Popovich and helped lead San Antonio to a pair of NBA Championships (2005 and 2007), a pair of Western Conference championships (2005 and 2007) and five Division titles (2005, 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2012). In each of Newman’s seven seasons on the bench, the Spurs won 50 or more games, including a 50-16 mark last season en route to a Southwest Division title.

“Don is an outstanding coach and a great addition to our staff,” said Wizards Head Coach Randy Wittman. “He brings championship experience from his time with the Spurs and has been very successful in every stop of his career.”

Larry Miller has stepped down as president of the Blazers and will return to Nike. Miller had two years remaining on his contract but informed owner Paul Allen of the decision on Friday.

Miller will once again be president of Brand Jordan, the same position he held from 1999 until 2006.

“It felt like it is the right time, and the right thing for me,’’ Miller said Saturday morning.

Miller helped the Blazers stabilize their financial practices during his tenure.

Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced today that the club has promoted George David to the position of Assistant General Manager.

“We are pleased to announce the promotion of George David to Assistant General Manager,” said Joe Dumars, President of Basketball Operations. “George has played a significant role for our basketball operations team in coordinating our draft preparation, scouting, free agent analysis and administration. He will do a great job in his new position.”

David, who enters his 15th season with the Pistons, will direct the day-to-day operations of the basketball department, handling player personnel issues, assisting in roster development and coordinating league and company-wide administrative duties.

The Hawks have added Wes Wilcox to their front office staff as assistant general manager.

Wilcox is familiar with Danny Ferry from their time together with the Cavaliers.

Wilcox was most recently director of player personnel of Cleveland.

Rick Brunson accepted a position as an assistant coach on Mike Dunlap's staff with the Charlotte Bobcats.

Brunson was previously an assistant with the Bulls.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed Scott Brooks to a multi-year contract.

Brooks' deal is believed to be for four seasons. 

This past season, Brooks guided the Thunder to a second consecutive Northwest Division title and a trip to the NBA Finals. Under Brooks, the Thunder has claimed the second most victories (152) in the NBA during the past three seasons.
