Adam Silver Defends NBA's Punishment Of Miles Bridges With 'Partial Credit' Given For 22-23

Apr 26, 2023 10:47 AM

Adam Silver defended the decision by the NBA to suspend Miles Bridges for 30 games with a 20-game credit applied to this past season in which he was without a contract.

Bridges was arrested in June when he was accused of hitting his girlfriend in front of their children. Bridges pled no contest to a felony domestic violence charge.

On Tuesday, Silver said the league and Bridges had a “mutual agreement” that he would not play during the 22-23 season.

"The process (with Bridges) was that we worked with his representatives and the players association that he sat out the entire season," Silver said. "And so we felt, on the balance, that because he had sat out an entire season and not been paid for an entire season, that we thought in fairness that would give him partial credit, I think, for having sat out that season."

Bridges will lose 30 games of pay next season, even though his suspension will only keep him out of 10 games if he signs a new contract. Players are typically credited for games only when they are eligible and available to play.

Bridges’s punishment has been criticized by some reporters and by fans on social media.

Warriors Were 'Shocked, Caught Off Guard' By Draymond Green Suspension, 'Some Anger' Toward NBA For Decision

Apr 19, 2023 4:53 PM

The NBA suspended Draymond Green for Game 3 in what was widely considered a surprise decision and one in which Joe Dumars defended in multiple interviews with ESPN. Dumars implied that the league took the totality of Green's career and his behavior following the stomping on Domantas Sabonis after his leg was grabbed by Sabonis.

"The Warriors were shocked and caught off guard last night," said Zach Lowe on his podcast about the reaction of the franchise when they learned of the NBA's decision. "There is some anger within the organization toward the league. There's a sense in the organization that Sabonis is shoving people on offensive rebounds and playing with his elbows out and using the ball as a weapon on offense. 'So of course someone eventually retaliated.' You can give that any validity you want."

The Kings enter Game 3 up 2-0 against the Warriors.

Joe Dumars Emphasizes Draymond Green's Status As 'Repeat Offender' Led To Suspension

Apr 19, 2023 11:31 AM

Joe Dumars explained the NBA's decision to suspend Draymond Green for Game 3 of the first round series between the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings. Green stepped on the sternum of Domantas Sabonis after Sabonis grabbed Green's leg while trying to run up the floor.

“Here’s what it came down to: Excessive and over-the-top actions, conduct detrimental and a repeat offender," said Dumars to ESPN. "That’s what separates this where you end up with a suspension.”

Dumars said he tried to ignore the fact that the Kings are up 2-0 in the series.

“You know what the situation is, but you have to set that aside and look at the facts in front of you…Repeat offender weighs as heavy as anything.”

Before joining the league office, Dumars was a consultant for the Kings.

Apr 19, 2023 12:43 AM

The NBA suspended Draymond Green for Game 3 of the Golden State Warriors first-round series against the Sacramento Kings for stepping on Domantas Sabonis' chest.

The league's statement notes that part of the reason for the suspension is due to Green's "history of unsportsmanlike acts."

The incident in question occurred with 7:03 remaining in the fourth quarter of Game 2. Sabonis grabbed Green's right ankle, to which Green responded with the step.

Green, who asked for an x-ray after the game, believed he injured his right ankle in the incident

Rudy Gobert Suspended For Play-In At Lakers

Apr 10, 2023 1:31 PM

Rudy Gobert won't play for the Minnesota Timberwolves in their play-in game at the Los Angeles Lakers due to a suspension. Gobert will serve a one-game suspension and is expected to return for either another play-in game on Friday, or Game 1 of the Western Conference playoffs if the Wolves beat the Lakers.

Gobert and Kyle Anderson had a physical altercation during Sunday's win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Gobert then tweeted Anderson an apology after the game.

"Emotions got the best of me today. I should not have reacted the way i did regardless of what was said. I wanna apologize to the fans, the organisation and particularly to Kyle, who is someone that i truly love and respect as a teammate," wrote Gobert.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Wolves "are not happy with either player: Rudy Gobert or Kyle Anderson. They felt Kyle Anderson played a role in escalating it. He didn't throw a punch, but he kept on Rudy Gobert verbally. Part of what Rudy Gobert was trying to say to Anderson in the huddle was he was playing injured and giving it what he could."
