Carmelo Rehabbing From Elbow Bursitis

Jun 30, 2011 10:31 AM

Carmelo Anthony is suffering from elbow bursitis, a condition he had earlier last season in Denver.

It flared up with the Knicks in late February when he talked about the possibility of having a drainage procedure but added he "doesn't like going under the knife."

After his second game as a Knick on Feb. 25 in Cleveland, Anthony said his right elbow felt numb in the fourth quarter.

"When I shoot it's hard for me to follow through after a shot, it's just painful," Anthony said.

Anthony proceeded to wear a shooting sleeve the following game and donned one off and on the rest of the season.

Heat's Miller Undergoes Thumb Surgery

Jun 24, 2011 7:00 PM

Miami Heat forward Mike Miller is recovering from surgery for a ruptured tendon in his left thumb.

Miller was injured during the latter stages of the regular season, finishing the postseason in protective bracing on his non-shooting hand.

Miller sustained a similar injury to his right thumb during the preseason, with the ensuing surgery sidelining him for two months and limiting his effectiveness for the balance of the season.

Jermaine O'Neal Forgoes Wrist Surgery, Plans To Return Next Season

Jun 23, 2011 10:32 AM

Jermaine O’Neal, who went through the playoffs with the wrist injury, has decided to forgo surgery in favor of rehabilitation, according to Danny Ainge. The Celtics president said yesterday that O’Neal, attempting to take advantage of the team’s resources before players are locked out on July 1, has been a regular at the workout facility in Waltham.

“He has every intention of coming back,” Ainge said of the only true center on his team’s roster. “He has every desire to play, and didn’t like the way it finished this year, and doesn’t want to end his career on that type of note. He wants to be a much greater contributor.

“He chose not to have surgery.”

Celtics president Danny Ainge said that Rajon Rondo is "not 100 percent yet.

“He's probably about four weeks away from playing basketball at full speed, but he can do some training and conditioning right now," Ainge said.

While Ainge and coach Doc Rivers addressed the media on the eve of the NBA draft, Rondo was running on a treadmill above the practice floor.

Oden May Not Return Until 2012

Jun 16, 2011 9:58 AM

Greg Oden is being cautious in his recovery from microfracture surgery on his left knee and may not return until January 2012, according to his agent Bill Duffy.

“You proceed with caution,” Duffy told Portland radio station KXL, via Blazersedge.com.

“We don't want to come back too soon. We're not going to even challenge it until we get to that 12 month threshold. If it were December or November or January we just can't afford any more slip ups. We'll wait until we get full clearance and then probably err on the side of caution, maybe a month or so after that.”

Stoudemire Still Struggling With Back Pain, Says Knicks Need To Get Defensive

Jun 15, 2011 7:08 PM

Amar'e Stoudemire revealed on Wednesday that he continues to experience back pain nearly two months after originally sustaining an injury prior to Game 2 against the Boston Celtics.

"It's still tight," said Stoudemire, who was injured during a pre-game dunk. "It's still pretty tight. It was pretty serious. It's a muscle that takes a while to heal." …

Stoudemire also praised the Dallas Mavericks for winning the title and for doing a good job of "harassing" LeBron James. In fact, the Mavs success reinforced Stoudemire's belief that the Knicks, a team that hasn't been known for defense for more than 10 years, needs to focus on performing at both ends of the court.

"For us, no question, it's about focusing in on how important defense is," he said. "We have to focus in on that angle and that angle only. Offense is no problem, but defense is where we have to focus in on."

Haywood Game-Time Decision For Game 6

Jun 12, 2011 1:56 PM

Dallas Mavericks backup center Brendan Haywood backed off Saturday's declarative statement that he will test his ailing right hip in tonight's Game 6 against the Miami Heat. Prior to Sunday morning's shootaround, Haywood was definitive only in that he will be a game-time decision.

"I feel a little better, but it's one of those situations where you feel better doing things that aren't basketball related," Haywood said. "It's something totally different when you're trying to chase down one of the NBA's elite athletes or you're trying to trap D-Wade or something like that. That's a totally different ballgame and your hip responds differently to those type of motions."

Haywood strained his right hip flexor prior to the NBA Finals and aggravated it in Game 2. He missed Game 3, played just three minutes in Game 4 and sat out Game 5.
