Joe Johnson Doesn't Expect To Need Surgery On Foot

Apr 30, 2013 10:41 AM

Joe Johnson does not expect to need surgery on his persistent plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

Johnson had a cortisone shot before Saturday's game.

"Nah, no surgery," said Johnson. "I've talked to the doc. The damage is done. I can't do much more than I've already done. It's just going to take time to kind of let it rest and heal. I probably won't be able to work out for a little while. I'll just have to rest up."

Shumpert Not Thinking About Knee As He Gets Closer To Full Strength

Apr 29, 2013 10:45 AM

Iman Shumpert tore his ACL a year ago and is not all the way back athletically, but he continues to get closer to full strength.

Shumpert had 12 points, 12 rebounds, two blocks and two steals in the New York Knicks' 97-90 overtime loss to the Boston Celtics on Sunday in Game 4.

"I'm not really thinking about my knee," Shumpert said. "We've just got to win games. I've got the whole summer to work on things, to get myself to where I want to be individually, athletically. But right now, with what we've got and how my knee feels, it's good enough to play and I've got to go out there and make plays."

Hinrich To Miss Game 5 With Bruised Left Calf

Apr 29, 2013 10:41 AM

Kirk Hinrich will miss the Chicago Bulls' Game 5 matchup against the Brooklyn Nets with a bruised left calf.

Hinrich arrived at Monday morning's shootaround in a walking boot.

"It's real disappointing," Hinrich said. "You never want to miss playoff games."

An MRI on Hinrich's calf muscle revealed no tear.

The bruise is severe enough that missing the rest of the week "is a real possibility," the source said.

Rondo On Schedule In Early Stages Of ACL Recovery

Apr 28, 2013 6:17 PM

Rajon Rondo was shooting jumpers before the Boston Celtics' Game 4 win over the New York Knicks.

Rondo, who is out for the season with a torn ACL, is finding it difficult to be a spectator.

"I like to compete, I want to play but I'm fine where I'm at right now," Rondo said. "I'm just trying to support my teammates. That's all I can do and that's what I am going to do. I've been watching for four months now, it's hard sitting on the sideline watching. Can't do anything about it."

Rondo has played some of his best basketball during the postseason.

"That's what it's about, it's about stepping up to the plate, when the lights come on that's when you see what you're made of," he said. "I love the spotlight. I love the pressure situations and what other situation is better than the playoffs."

Rondo had surgery on Feb. 13 and is expected to return between six and 12 months.

"Every ACL surgery they say you can start running in about four to six months (after surgery)," he said. "I think that's when I'll start running. That's in the textbook of ACL rehab. I don't know how long training camp is far from my surgery. I get in between six to 12 months."

Derrick Rose, a rival to Rondo at point guard, still hasn't returned from his torn ACL.

"Everybody's different," Rondo said. "I can walk. I should be walking by now and I can walk. I can't jump. I can't run but I'm walking so for me that's on schedule."

Dwyane Wade Misses Game 4 To Rest Knee

Apr 28, 2013 3:42 PM

MILWAUKEE – After working out pregame, Dwyane Wade missed the Miami Heat’s Game 4 against the Bucks on Sunday afternoon, deciding to rest his knee.

Wade warmed up without his knee pads, and Heat assistant coaches walked off the court confident that the All-Star guard could play if needed. Wade has dealt with a sore right knee this season and tweaked his forearm in Thursday’s Game 3 win.

The Heat have a 3-0 lead over the Bucks in this first round matchup and should still close out the matchup. Mike Miller will start at shooting guard in Wade's place.

Wade missed 11 of 12 shots in Game 3, but he made critical plays to allow the Heat to pull away in the second half, finishing with 11 assists and nine rebounds. He has averaged 13.7 points, seven rebounds and 6.3 assists over three playoff games.

Apr 27, 2013 6:50 PM

Pau Gasol has dealt with tendonosis in both knees this season.

“It’s something I’ve dealt with all year, but I have to do something to regenerate the tissue,” Gasol said, “so I don’t have to play with this pain.”

Gasol was asked if he might consider going to Germany in the offseason to undergo a derivation of the platelet-rich plasma procedure.

“I’ll go to wherever I need to go,” Gasol said. “It’s a possibility.”
