Jodie Meeks Runs For First Time Since Back Injury

Nov 29, 2014 3:05 PM

Jodie Meeks completed some light jogging for the first time since suffering a lower-back stress reaction injury in October.

"It felt fine, so we'll see," Meeks said. "It's all about how I feel and how I react."

Meeks was the Detroit Pistons' highest-priced free agent last summer when he signed a three-year, $19.5 million contract.

Meeks might have been the Pistons' season-opening starter at shooting guard. Instead, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has seen his playing time stretched out significantly.

Knicks Concerned Carmelo Anthony's Back Issue Could Be Season-Long

Nov 26, 2014 1:36 PM

Carmelo Anthony is expected to miss the rest of the New York Knicks' road trip with a back injury.

The Knicks are concerned that Anthony's injury could become a season-long issue related to the disk.

Anthony injured his back landing awkwardly after a jump shot in Monday's game.

“Most injuries aren’t necessarily acute or traumatic,’’ Derek Fisher said. “Maybe there were some things that led up to it. Back spasms isn’t something you can push it or rush. Until you can actually play without actually being in spasm, there isn’t anything you can really do. Hopefully that will be soon.’’

David West hopes to return from a sprained ankle on Friday against the Orlando Magic.

"(Coach Frank Vogel) will make the call," West said after participating in practice Tuesday in San Antonio. "I'll see what he says. (But) I feel good. This last week has been good. No setbacks. The ankle is healthy which is important."

Vogel said he is hopeful West can return Friday.

Nov 26, 2014 11:30 AM

Derrick Rose was removed at halftime of the Chicago Bulls' game against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday because of left hamstring tightness.

"Just trying to be smart, back-to-back (games), fatigue, and didn't want to take any steps back," said Rose, who scored two points. "So, take these couple of days off, head to Boston."

Rose has missed four games with the hamstring injury this season.

Aaron Gray Remaining Active With Pistons Despite Being Waived

Nov 25, 2014 11:11 AM

Aaron Gray remains at the Detroit Pistons' practice facility helping put big men through drills while being sidelined after a cardiac episode over the summer.

"I had my first kind of 'shock' here," Gray said, referring to the Pistons' practice facility, "then it was kind of a rollercoaster over the next two days."

Gray does extensive cardio exercises and undergoes regular testing.

"We're just taking it one step at a time right now -- still gathering information, same old answers -- and preparing for the next step," Gray said. "What step we're on, or what step we'll get to, I don't know. Eventually, there will have to be a decision on whether I can play basketball again or not."

Gray was waived and the Pistons traded for Joel Anthony to replace his roster spot since he would not likely be cleared.

Gray stayed for his rehabilitation and remains active in the game by drilling big men for a team that released him.

"They brought me here for a service," Gray said. "Even though I've been waived, the type of guy I am, I'm still getting paid for two years. I just wouldn't feel right not contributing as much as I possibly could.

"The organization's been great. It's been great being around the bigs, giving them as much knowledge as I can, helping out as much as possible, and just being able to use the facilities during my rehab."

Thibodeau: Derrick Rose Still Not Real Comfortable With Ball Yet

Nov 25, 2014 11:06 AM

Derrick Rose had 18 points, five assists and three rebounds in 25 minutes in the Chicago Bulls' 97-95 win at the Utah Jazz.

Tom Thibodeau was asked after the game if Rose looked fatigued in the second half.

"Oh I don't know. Jesus. He's got to get out there and play," Thibodeau said. "I thought he did a lot of good things. You could see he's not real comfortable with the ball yet, but that will come. When Derrick strings some games together, he's going to take off. He's got to go. That's the bottom line. He's got to go."

Rose has tried to be cautious about his future and has missed eight games overall after missing four earlier in the season because of sprained ankles.

"It's been time," Rose said. "To me, it's been time. Every injury is a setback a little bit, but as far as emotions and everything, how hard I worked, it's been consistent with how I'm feeling, being positive. And it's been a minute since I've played. This is the first one and now it's behind me and now we're on to Denver."
