76ers Unsure If Joel Embiid Will Play At All This Season

Aug 27, 2014 1:10 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers are unsure if Joel Embiid will play in any games this season.

Embiid underwent surgery on his foot in June and the original prognosis was that he would be out 4-6 months.

"I don't know at this point. Right now, he's in Philly and visiting with a variety of our medical professionals and going through tests," said Sam Hinkie.

"He'll get a good baseline and then we'll put together a rehab plan. He's still in a boot. He was shooting threes on one leg in our gym [Monday]. I don't know how it will play out. We'll take an approach without knowing where the finish line is. We want to know how we can be sure to put him in a position to have a long NBA career. However long [rehab] takes will be however long it takes. In my experience with this injury, a very reasonable approach that our medical professionals take is to put these hurdles in place for them to rise above and then measure the symptoms and then let's see what happens in the days after. Is there tightness or soreness or swelling? Does the MRI or X-ray show something different? When we set that road map, no one knows [how long it will take]."

Brook Lopez Weighs 15 Pounds Less Than He Did Last Fall

Aug 21, 2014 2:15 PM

Brook Lopez has lost weight since arriving at training camp last fall weighing 290 pounds.

“I’m at my playing weight,” Lopez said with a laugh. “I can attribute that to laying in bed for months, but I’m back to the weight that’s normal for me. Last I checked, I was just under 275 [pounds].”

Lopez does not believe carrying more weight caused him to fractured the fifth metatarsal in his foot last December.

“I may have been five pounds heavier, but that’s not what injured me,” he said.

Derrick Rose has been sidelined from Team USA with ‘‘general body fatigue’’ since a victory over Brazil at the United Center on Saturday night.

Rose, who has had season-ending surgeries on both knees since the 2012 NBA playoffs, sat out both practices in New York but participated in the shootaround Wednesday morning and, according to one source, ‘‘moved very well.’’

According to a Chicago Bulls' source, Rose has been having ‘‘some aches in both knees, as well as his body, over the last 72 hours, but nothing unexpected or even out of the ordinary.’’

"Missing (Brook Lopez) didn't allow us to go further (last season)..right now, there isn't a plan to put any restrictions on him," said Billy King.

Paul George Holding Out Hope For Quick Return

Aug 15, 2014 2:53 PM

Paul George spoke to the media at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Friday afternoon for the first time since breaking his right leg in two places while playing for Team USA two weeks ago.

All indications have been that he will miss the 2014-15 season, but the All-Star is holding out hope that he'll heal quickly.

"I don't mind taking a year off to get better for the next season," said George, who was supported by his parents, Frank Vogel, Roy Hibbert and George Hill at the press conference. When asked again about the coming season, George admitted that he's "holding out a little hope."

George stated several times that he and Indiana's training staff are trying to avoid a timetable for his return. He expects to begin rehabilitating his knee as soon as next week, but is currently limited to laying around his house.

There is a rod down George's right leg held together with pins through his knee and ankle.

George thanked countless people for their support in the wake of the injury and was very clear in his support of USA Basketball.

"It just happen, freak accidents happen," he said, adding that he still hopes to be a part of Team USA two years from now at the Olympics in Brazil.
