Gordon Hayward Had Follow-Up Surgery Due To Pain On Outside Of Ankle

Jun 26, 2018 5:38 PM

Gordon Hayward provided an update on his recovery from a fractured tibia and dislocated ankle suffered on opening night in 2017.

Hayward said he's still on schedule to be ready for the start of next season but dealt with a "complication."

“I recently had surgery to remove the plate and screws that were put in my ankle after I broke it in the opener,” Hayward wrote. “It’s not something we were expecting to be a part of this recovery process, but I’m happy to report that I’ll be back out there resuming rehab soon, with my sights set firmly on being back to my usual self for the start of next season.”

Hayward provided more background on how the decision was made.

“I was also still having some pain on the outside of my ankle, kind of where the peroneal tendon is,” said Hayward. “I had been reporting back daily how I was feeling, and the team that I was working with in Indianapolis—along with the Celtics training staff—had surmised that it could be the hardware they put in during my initial surgery causing some irritation.”

Michael Porter Jr. Cancels Workout Due To Strained Hip

Jun 14, 2018 11:41 AM

Michael Porter Jr. has canceled his second pro day in Chicago set for Friday due to a strained hip.

Porter was unable to get out of bed due to muscle spasms.

The New York Knicks, Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns and other lottery teams planned on attending the workout, according to Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer.

Porter was the No. 2 player in the 2017 incoming high school class but injuries during his freshman season have impacted his stock.

"There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with him right now," one NBA executive told ESPN.com. "But a conservative doctor could still [be concerned about] what might happen down the road."

Lonzo Ball Underwent Platelet-Rich Plasma Shot

Jun 12, 2018 7:23 PM

Lonzo Ball underwent a platelet-rich plasma shot to treat and strengthen his left knee.

Ball underwent the PRP shot and stayed off his left knee for about a month to let it heal after missing the final eight games of the regular season due to a left knee contusion.

Ball now has returned to resume basketball-related activities.

"I just got back [on the court]," Ball told ESPN at the Big Baller Brand Junior Basketball Association media day at Citizens Business Bank Arena, where he joined his father and brothers. "But I have been lifting weights. Nothing stopped me from doing that. I just got back on the court though, but everything is feeling good."

The Lakers want Ball to get bigger and stronger to avoid injury.

LeBron James' Camp Didn't Leak Report Of Hand Injury

Jun 10, 2018 12:11 PM

LeBron James wore a cast on his right hand to the podium for his postgame press conference after Game 4. James only wore the cast after it had been reported he suffered a severe contusion by punching a white board after Game 1. James would not have worn the cast had that report not surfaced.

James' camp did not leak news of the injury.

James' teammates and coaches all knew what had happened and it was surprising to some degree that news of the injury hadn't been leaked sooner.
