Danilo Gallinari Has Torn Left Meniscus

Aug 28, 2022 10:21 AM

Danilo Gallinari has been diagnosed with a torn left meniscus. Gallinari was injured while playing for Italy in a World Cup Qualifier against Georgia on Saturday.

The extent of the tear has yet to be released. The chosen surgical options have also not been released. Meniscus tears have different ways they can be handled. Each comes with a different timeline for the player to return to playing.

Both the Italian National Team and Gallinari confirmed he will miss EuroBasket 2022, which is set to tip off next month.

Gallinari was signed to a two-year, $13.3 million contract this offseason by the Boston Celtics. The hope is Gallinari, along with fellow offseason pickup Malcolm Brogdon, will provide the bench production Boston was lacking in their NBA Finals loss to the Golden State Warriors.

Aug 27, 2022 2:33 PM

Orlando Magic guard Gary Harris has suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee. Harris will undergo further testing before a timetable for his return is determined.

Harris had a bounce-back season in his first full year with Orlando. Harris averaged 11.1 points and shot 38.4% on three-pointers.

Harris signed an extension with Orlando just before the start of this past offseason. Harris signed a two-year, $26 million deal. Each season's salary is $13 million, but the second season for 2023-24 is non-guaranteed.

Jayson Tatum Played Through Wrist Fracture Last Season

Aug 21, 2022 8:09 PM

In a recent interview with Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum said he played with a non-displaced fracture in his left wrist at the end of last season. Tatum said he injured the wrist with about two months to play in the regular season.

The Boston star said he reinjured the wrist in the second round of the playoffs when he was fouled by Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks. Tatum said that reinjury occurred when he fell following a dunk that he was fouled on by Antetokounmpo.

According to Tatum, no one but Celtics personnel were aware of the injury. He regularly wore a brace on the injured wrist, but never when the media was present. Tatum said he won't use the injury as any sort of excuse because "if I'm going out there to play, nothing matters".

The good news is that there are no long-term concerns for Williams' knee. No further surgery was deemed necessary after the Finals. Williams was told to get plenty of rest, and he should be fully available at the start of training camp.

Williams is coming off a breakout season. The athletic big man made the All-Defensive second team. He was also a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year. This upcoming season will see Williams start the first year of a four-year contract extension with the Celtics.
