Dion Waiters Rejected Ankle Surgery With 8-10 Month Recovery

Sep 27, 2017 4:00 PM

Dion Waiters said he decided not to undergo ankle surgery last March, which would have forced him to miss eight to 10 months.

The Miami Heat re-signed Waiters on a four-year, $52 million deal.

Waiters continues to push through discomfort in his ankle as training camp gets underway.

"Some days you're going to feel great, some days it might be just one of them days," he said following practice at Florida Atlantic University. "You have to push through it and be smart about the whole situation.

"The swelling just started going down. It's still a little bit swollen but it's not how it was before."

Waiters missed the final 13 games of last season as the Heat narrowly missed out on the playoffs.

"When I found out, it was only two choices," Waiters said. "I'm not a big fan of surgery, so I try to avoid surgery. I didn't want to be out eight to 10 months. I asked for another solution, 'What’s another way we can go about it?' We went that route, just getting it stronger, keep getting treatments every day all day. That's all I really do. But it’s fine, though. I’m good, man."

Chandler Parsons Feels 'Completely Different' After Offseason Training

Sep 27, 2017 10:38 AM

After signing a four-year, $94 million max contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, Chandler Parsons played in only 34 games and was largely ineffective. Parsons was booed by Memphis fans before being shut down to under surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.

"You get paid a certain salary, you're judged, and you're expected to perform at the highest level when you're getting paid at the highest level," Parsons says. "To put it simply, I didn't last year. I truly believe it was 95 percent injury. I don't think I've lost my game or lost a step.

"Just physically, I wasn't there last year. I was a step slow, I wasn't athletic, I wasn't fast. I wasn't myself."

Because Parsons didn't have to go through the same type of extensive rehab as he had in the previous two summers, he could focus on training.

"I dedicated my entire summer to my body," Parsons says. "I can't even really compare it to last year because it's night and day how my body feels, the kind of shape I'm in. I'm lean. I'm playing 5-on-5, one-on-one, 2-on-2, 3-on-3. Working out five times a week. I'm doing stuff now that basically I couldn't even do throughout the season last year. It's completely different."

76ers Confident Extension Agreement Will Be Reached With Joel Embiid

Sep 20, 2017 7:17 PM

Joel Embiid has yet to be cleared by the Philadelphia 76ers for five-on-five drills. The 76ers will take a cautious approach as he returns from his meniscus surgery.

"If you walk in the gym, it looks like he could play 5-on-5 basketball," Bryan Colangelo said. "But we're going to take our cues from the people who know best."

According to Colangelo, those people favor a "hyper-conservative progression" for Embiid.

Colangelo also said he was optimistic the 76ers and Embiid could agree to a contract extension before the deadline.
