Rautins Dealing With Injured Knee

Aug 31, 2010 5:01 PM

Knicks rookie guard Andy Rautins is dealing with an injured knee as he plays for Canada at the World Championships.

New York's training camp is set to open in three weeks, which could make the injury problematic if Rautins continues to play on it.

He did not play in Canada's loss to France on Tuesday.

Portland Conservative On Pryzbilla's Return

Aug 27, 2010 4:16 PM

The Trail Blazers aren't expecting Joel Przybilla to be ready for training camp.

"He's back in Milwaukee working really hard. He's continuing his rehab. I've spoken to the trainer and he's come along well," new Portland general manager Rich Cho said.

Przybilla suffered a serious knee injury and aggravated it when he slipped in the shower this spring.

"I don't think he'll be back for camp. Not playing on the court. He'll be at training camp. Right now with Joel we're looking at probably a November or December time frame."

Aug 26, 2010 11:08 AM

The Philadelphia 76ers announced that due to forward Andres Nocioni's injured left ankle, the team has advised him to withdraw from the upcoming FIBA World Championships, effective immediately.

The MRI of Nocioni's left ankle was reviewed by Dr. Jack McPhilemy of Main Line Health Services, who recommended that Nocioni stop all basketball and impact activity until the team opens Training Camp at the end of September, at which time he will be re-evaluated.

Upon Nocioni's return to Philadelphia, another MRI will be taken of his left ankle.

Yao Clarifies Comments On Retirement

Aug 25, 2010 4:26 PM

Yao Ming has clarified comments made earlier this season that seemed to indicate retirement was a possibility in the not-so-distant future.

The comment came out of China last month. He mentioned the possibility of retirement if his foot didn't heal properly.

He was cleared for basketball activities this week.

"That entire interview was talking about the future of Chinese basketball," Yao said. "I told them however long I can play, one day I will retire. This team needs to learn how to play without me, either now or later. Sooner is better than later.

"I also told them, the worst case, I'm just saying the worst case, the worst case, is that I don't go through the season and have to retire after the season. They only put that part in the story. That interview was only about how to develop Chinese basketball."

Calderon Should Be Ready For Camp

Aug 24, 2010 7:44 AM

Jose Calderon is expected to be ready for training camp despite a leg injury serious enough to keep him out of this month's World Championships in Turkey.

Calderon suffered a torn muscle in his leg during Spain's exhibition game against the United States on Sunday.

Spanish team officials said Calderon would need "four weeks" to recover from the injury, putting him back just before camp starts.

"It's unfortunate that he will miss the worlds and playing for his country which he loves to do," Raptors coach Jay Triano said.

"The timing for him is not good, but he should heal sufficiently to be ready for camp and that will now be his focus."

Perkins Hopes To Return In January

Aug 22, 2010 10:01 AM

The Celtics aren't expecting Kendrick Perkins to return until February or March, but he has set a goal of January for his return to the court.

Perkins tore his right ACL in the first quarter of Game 6 of this year's NBA Finals against the Lakers.

"I've been doing a lot of rehabbing, make sure I get my work in every day," he said. "Make sure I keep my weight down, just taking it one day at a time.

"The swelling in my leg went down so everything's coming around pretty quickly. Right now I can't work out like I want to, I can't hoop. But everything else is doing great."

Perkins added that he doesn't feel threatened by the additions of Shaquille O'Neal and Jermaine O'Neal this summer.

"I don't see it threatening me at all," he said. "I got to work hard. I know I got to fight to get back to where I was. It's no problem with me. Hard work is not a problem."

Oden Says Recovery Is On Schedule

Aug 22, 2010 9:53 AM

Greg Oden says he's on track in his recovery from a major knee injury.

"The doctors tell me I'm on time," he said Saturday. "We're going at a pace that they've got for me. Things are looking pretty good."

However, being "on time" doesn't mean Oden will be ready for the start of training camp or even necessarily the team's season opener against Phoenix on Oct. 26.

"By saying 'on time,' means I'm on schedule to heal," he said.

Last December, Oden's season ended when he fractured the patella in his left knee in a game against the Rockets.

"I'm feeling good," he said. "I have been running. But I have not played yet."
