Tony Parker Transformed Mentally By Eye Injury

Jul 28, 2012 10:51 AM

Tony Parker was injured as a bystander in a nightclub brawl, receiving a shard of glass that came "two millimeters" away from causing him to lose his eye.

“Life can change pretty fast,” he said.

The incident has made Parker more cautious.

“It’s so funny, because I just had my best year in the NBA and in one night it can change,” said Parker, who will wear protective glasses during the Olympics. “It just puts life in perspective and you think, ‘OK, next time I have to be careful,’ but at the same time you can’t stop living because then you don’t even cross the street.

“You don’t want to dramatize too much, but it still puts it all in perspective.”

Rubio Hopes To Begin Running In September

Jul 28, 2012 10:36 AM

Ricky Rubio returns to Colorado next week for another examination of his knee.

"I hope by September I can start running again," Rubio says.

Rubio is unable to participate in the 2012 Olympics due to the torn ACL that ended his rookie season in March.

"Hard watching basketball and not being part of it, especially a game like that this week," Rubio says."I felt like somebody was going to have to come grab me, because I'm going to jump out there at any time and try to play.

"But in my mind, there's a goal, and the goal is recovering 100 percent and making sure I'm never going to get hurt again in that knee."

Waiters Dealing With Ankle, Knee Injuries

Jul 22, 2012 12:09 PM

Dion Waiters is still dealing with an ankle injury sustained during a workout before the draft.

Waiters averaged 12.3 points on 30 percent shooting during three Summer League games with the Cavaliers.

"I think his week was OK," Byron Scott said. "We all wish he would have played a little bit better and shot the ball better. But we knew he was coming off an ankle injury before he came here and [had] a couple little nagging injuries. He hurt the knee when he went up to dunk, so we held him out as a precautionary move.”

Waiters sat out Cleveland’s final two games as the team finished with a 3-2 record.

"We still feel pretty good about where he is,” Scott said. “He's still got a ways to go. We talked about his conditioning and losing a few pounds. But we feel he's going to be in great shape when training camp comes."
