As far as Bremerton High boys basketball coach Casey Lindberg is concerned, his star forward Marvin Williams is keeping his earlier oral commitment to the University of North Carolina.
But an NBA source told The News Tribune on Thursday that Williams, a 6-foot-9 all-state forward, is seriously considering forgoing college and entering the 2004 NBA Draft next June.
"We've discussed that. A lot of things would have to happen," said Lindberg, who said a career-changing decision would ultimately come between Williams and his father, Marvin Sr.
"What we're pushing Marvin toward is North Carolina."
Last year, Williams - who averaged 24 points and 13 rebounds per game as a junior and was the Narrows League Bridge Division MVP - went through the gymnasium and home visits with major college programs throughout the country.
He narrowed his list to three schools - the University of Washington, North Carolina and Arizona - before announcing July 4 he would be a Tar Heels recruit, largely because he wants to play for new coach Roy Williams.
