Cody Zeller Gained 9-Plus Pounds Of Muscle Over Offseason

Oct 26, 2012 11:35 AM

Cody Zeller added more than nine pounds of muscle over the offseason.

“Our strength and conditioning coach was really good. A lot of lifting weights and a lot of eating everything. I put on a lot of muscle,” Zeller said when asked about his offseason training regimen. “We did a body fat test and I think I gained nine and a half pounds of muscle and lost two pounds of fat. It was good weight, too. So I don’t think I’ve lost any mobility and I can still run.”

Zeller was listed at 6-foot-11, 230 pounds last season.

“It will help all aspects of the game,” Zeller said of his added strength. “Posting up, rebounding, you know the guys in the Big Ten are so big you’ve got to have strength and weight. I think it will help me a lot this year.”

Andrew Wiggins To Reclassify To 2013

Oct 25, 2012 2:23 PM

Andrew Wiggins will reclassify as a member of the 2013 class.

Wiggins is considering Kentucky and Florida State.

Wiggins could then become eligible for the 2014 NBA Draft should he declare after his freshman season.

"It's time," Mitchell Wiggins said. "It's time for him (to show) that he is the best in college right now. I think he is ready for the next step. Academically-wise he is doing great. Maturity-wise he is doing great. He has a lot of talent. He is ready for the next step, and everybody knows it is time. It is Andrew's time. Next year is coming soon and he is ready."

Wiggins, a native of Canada, is widely considered either the first or second ranked high school player.

Aaron Craft Planning For Med School, Not Pro Basketball

Oct 12, 2012 9:27 AM

Aaron Craft has no intention of declaring for the NBA draft and will return for his senior season at Ohio State.

"We're planning on nothing happening after college except for med school," said Craft, a 4.0 student and reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. "If something happens outside of that, that's great news."

Craft is fully recovered from offseason ankle surgery which shaved off bone spurs and fixed a chipped tibia from high school.

Kabongo's Relationship With Agent Rich Paul Under NCAA Investigation

Oct 10, 2012 11:30 PM

The NCAA is investigating the possibility that agent Rich Paul provided improper benefits to Myck Kabongo, according to sources.

Kabongo is a sophomore guard at Texas originally from Canada.

Paul represents LeBron James, as well as fellow Canadians Tristan Thompson and Cory Joseph.

The NCAA is investigating whether Paul played a role in Kabongo traveling to Cleveland this spring.

Paul also called NBA front offices on behalf of Kabongo before this year's NBA draft, sources said.

"We're aware of the situation," Texas basketball media relations official Scott McConnell said. "But we have not heard any decisions from the NCAA."

An agent is allowed to have a relationship with a prospect and his family, but providing or promising financial benefits could place the player's college eligibility in peril.

After four years working in CAA's basketball division, Paul left the company in September.

Jabari Parker Uncertain Of Mormon Mission

Oct 9, 2012 9:38 AM

Jabari Parker could be affected by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' recent decision to lower the age minimum for men to serve a mission, his father said Monday.

The new minimum age requirement for church members' missions is 18 if they are a high school graduate, a change that would allow Parker to become a full-time missionary right after high school.

"When he's 18 and if he did want to go on a mission, he can now," Parker's father, Sonny Parker, said Monday. "He has to decide whether or not (he wants to). He hasn't decided one way or another. We've talked about it.

"If he's going at 18, he would go to a mission and then possibly go to college or to the NBA. I know his situation is different than a lot of people. We'll just see."

Jabari’s brother, Christian, served a mission after playing basketball at BYU-Hawaii.

"When he came from his mission, we talked a lot about it," Jabari Parker told Sports Illustrated in May. "I want to go (on a mission). But I have doubts. The NBA is the biggest dream of basketball players, and I'm no different."

Calipari: No Comparison Between Noel, Davis

Oct 1, 2012 11:18 PM

John Calipari said that no one should compare Nerlens Noel to last season’s national player of the year, Anthony Davis.

"He shouldn't be compared," Calipari said. "They're totally different. They're not even the same. Nerlens is going to give us a different type of game."

Davis offered his impressions of Noel after a scrimmage in August.

"I asked Anthony how was Nerlens because that's who he matched up against mostly," Calipari said. "And he said, 'He's good, Coach. He'll block some shots.' I said, 'How was he offensively?' He said, 'I kind of pushed him off the post.' I said, 'You pushed him off the post?'"

Noel savored the opportunity to matchup against his predecessor.

"It was definitely good playing against him, great experience being able to see how good he's gotten through this last year being at Kentucky," Noel said. "He's a real special player. It was good to play against a player that's been through what you're about to go through."
