Warriors Would 'Strongly Consider' Drafting Saddiq Bey If Team Trades Down

Oct 24, 2020 11:44 PM

The Golden State Warriors would reportedly "strongly consider" drafting Villanova's Saddiq Bey if the team trades down in the draft, sources told Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle.

"According to multiple league sources, Golden State would strongly consider Bey if it trades down to the mid- to late-lottery.

"His winning pedigree, defensive versatility, basketball IQ and offensive efficiency make him an intriguing option as a “3-and-D” wing in the Warriors’ system," reported Letourneau.

The 21-year-old Bey is currently ranked No. 18 in ESPN's Best Available.

The Warriors were most recently "blown away" by Dani Avdija's during his private workout.

Fewer Teams Expected To Tank During 20-21 Season

Oct 22, 2020 5:08 PM

The NBA could have fewer teams tanking during the 20-21 regular season ahead of what is supposed to be a strong 2021 draft class.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are widely expected to make 20-21 a rebuilding season after overachieving following the trades of Paul George and Russell Westbrook. Oklahoma City built the foundation of their team by drafting Kevin Durant at No. 2, Russell Westbrook at No. 4 and James Harden at No. 3 in three successive drafts.

The New Orleans Pelicans competed for a playoff spot in 19-20, but could explore trading away Jrue Holiday and J.J. Redick while improving their odds for another high pick in 2021.

"It's not a good year to tank if there are six teams trying to do the same thing, but if there's two teams," said Brian Windhorst. "Even the Knicks, a team to me makes sense to tank, there's legitimate rumors about them looking at Chris Paul. The Cavs, who have sort of been at the bottom, from what I understand intend to hit the gas a little bit. There's not a tankers out there, which I think Sam Presti is reading that. It goes to your point how competitive the west will be as the Pelicans look at making their decision."

The NBA changed the odds of the lottery in September 2017 with the three teams with the worst records having equal odds at 14 percent. The Thunder were the only team in the NBA to vote against the reform while the Dallas Mavericks abstained.

Wolves Have Yet To Identify Preferred Pick At No. 1

Oct 21, 2020 1:00 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves admitted they have yet to zero in on one player with the first overall pick, but Gersson Rosas is confident they will identify that player by the time they're on the clock on Nov. 18.

"The analysis is fair," Rosas said during Wednesday's videoconference availability. "There's no guy that has separated himself from the pack from public or external view, but I'm very confident that as we go through this process, the talent will rise to the top and we'll be confident about identifying one guy as the best guy, the best talented player with the most upside and most ability for our organization."

Minnesota will conduct interviews while also exploring the trade market.

"For us, we typically study the draft from 1 to whatever number we feel like is a draftable player," Rosas said. "And we'll evaluate those guys for trade scenarios, trade back, trade out, for undrafted free-agent opportunities, for minor league opportunities, so we really beat up the draft board as much as can all the way up until the draft.

"But I do, now, at the stage that we're at, about a month out, we have formulated a lot of opinions, but you want to challenge those as much as you can here as you go all the way up to draft night, but our staff has done an unbelievable job."

Anthony Edwards, James Wiseman and LaMelo Ball are widely considered the top three prospects in the draft.

Knicks Rank Killian Hayes Behind LaMelo Ball For Point Guards In Upcoming Draft

Oct 21, 2020 1:06 AM

The New York Knicks have Killian Hayes ranked behind LaMelo Ball on their point guard board for the upcoming NBA Draft, sources told Marc Berman of the New York Post.

The Knicks, who have the No. 8 pick in the draft, won't necessarily draft Hayes if he is available.

The team was reportedly looking to draft a point guard, though Leon Rose is now flexible on position.

Hayes will do a private, in-person workout for the Knicks.

The Knicks are also interested in trading down should Ball or James Wiseman be off the board, according to sources.
