Scottie Barnes Has Momentum To Go In Top-5

Jun 29, 2021 10:21 AM

The 2021 NBA draft has long been considered to have a clear top-5, but Scottie Barnes has emerged as a candidate to join the mix with Cade Cunningham, Jalen Green, Evan Mobley, Jalen Suggs and Jonathan Kuminga.

Barnes was the only lottery prospect who participated in all facets of the combine and tested well.

"Barnes has significant momentum coming out of Chicago and looks like a real threat to crack the top five on draft night," writes ESPN. "He's getting looks as high as No. 4 from Toronto, is strongly in play with Orlando at No. 5 and looks unlikely to fall past Oklahoma City at No. 6. This draft has been described as a five-player draft for much of the season, but Barnes has done what he can to deconstruct that narrative and put himself firmly in that group."

Executives have also become bullish about Barnes' shooting mechanics to project as a consistent perimeter shooter eventually.

Pistons Will Seriously Consider Evan Mobley, Jalen Green In Addition To Cade Cunningham

Jun 24, 2021 9:18 PM

While Cade Cunningham has long been considered the top prospect in the 2021 NBA Draft class, league sources tell Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated that the Detroit Pistons will seriously consider Evan Mobley and Jalen Green.

"The strong sense I’ve gotten is that Detroit will explore all its options before committing one way or another, and that the decision on who to take is far from a done deal," writes Jeremy Woo at Sports Illustrated.

Troy Weaver is known as a contrarian with disregard for consensus thought. Weaver continues to be a proponent of the value of bigs in the modern NBA and was widely thought to be bullish on James Wiseman entering last year's draft. That thinking has some around the league believing Weaver could ultimately favor the versatility of Mobley.

Jun 22, 2021 1:26 AM

Trey Murphy has hired an agent and will remain in the 2021 NBA Draft, he told Jonathan Givony of ESPN.

Murphy is currently ranked the No. 30 prospect in the ESPN 100.

"A lot of teams say they are very intrigued with me. Different teams seem to be targeting me with their first-round pick. The range is wide, so now we need to figure out which teams are the best fit for me and my development. The goal isn't just to get drafted at a certain number, but to play 15 years in the NBA," said Murphy.

Murphy ranked as the most efficient half-court scorer in the country among players likely to get drafted, including making 50% of his open standstill 3-pointers this season.

Jalen Green: I'm The Best Prospect In This Draft

Jun 11, 2021 3:11 PM

Jalen Green is considered "the most dynamic of the five prospects" at the top of the 2021 NBA draft with his scoring ability and athleticism on the wing. Green finished 10th in the G League in scoring at just 19 years old.

In comments to ESPN, Green said he's the best prospect in the draft.

"Me, I'm the best prospect in this draft, in my opinion," Green said. "I didn't go to college and I played against grown men. I just think as a 19-year-old doing that, I'm the best player in the draft for sure."

One NBA executive said Green has a chance to be a "10-time All-Star and 25-point-per-game scorer" once he settles into the NBA game.
