Magic Waive Adreian Payne From Two-Way Contract

The Orlando Magic waived Adreian Payne following a report from ESPN that Michigan State mishandled a rape allegation against he and Keith Appling. The incident reportedly happened in August of 2010.

Payne was a two-way player for the Magic.

Payne appeared in five games this season for the Magic and 17 games for the Magic’s G-League team in Lakeland, including Friday night’s game in Ohio against the Canton Charge.

Briante Weber Returns To Skyfource

The Sioux Falls Skyforce have re-acquired Briante Weber as a returning player.

Weber spent the first half of the 17-18 season as a two-way player for the Houston Rockets.

Over the past three seasons, Weber has appeared in 40 NBA games (four starts) for the Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets, Golden State Warriors and most recently in Houston. Weber has averaged 3.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists in just over 12 minutes per game in his NBA career.

Weber has appeared in 59 games (40 starts) for the Skyforce over the last two seasons, averaging 13.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game. Weber has accounted for multiple NBA call-ups in each of the last two seasons with Sioux Falls, was a member of the 2016 NBA G League Championship team, earned an NBA All-Star appearance during the 2016-17 seasons and was voted to the All NBA G League Second Team a year ago.

Wolves Sign Amile Jefferson To Two-Way Contract

The Minnesota Timberwolves announced the team has signed forward Amile Jefferson to a two-way contract.

Jefferson, 24, has played in 22 games this season for the Iowa Wolves, the Timberwolves’ NBA G League affiliate, averaging 18.0 points and a league-best 13.1 rebounds per contest while shooting 64.0% from the field. Jefferson, 6-9, has 16 double-doubles on the season, including one in each of his last seven games dating back to Dec. 29. The Duke graduate was recently named to the NBA G League Showcase First Team, averaging 22.5 points, 14.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 65.0% from the field over two contests. Jefferson’s best games include a 28-point, 21-rebound performance Jan. 6 at Texas and 29 points, 15 rebounds and six assists Jan. 10 at Canton (G League Showcase).

The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to sign Demetrius Jackson to a two-way contract and will release James Michael McAdoo.

Jackson was recently waived by the Rockets from his two-way contract.

Jackson appeared in 12 games with the Rockets. Jackson averaged 15.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 30.9 minutes per game in the G League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Jackson spent the 16-17 season with the Maine Red Claws.

The Detroit Pistons have signed guard Reggie Hearn to two-way contract. 

Hearn, 6-5, 210, has played in 14 games (10 starts) with the Reno Bighorns of the NBA G League this season and averaged 14.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 30.7 minutes per game.

The former Northwestern University product has played in 175 NBA G League games with the Idaho Stampede, Westchester Knicks and Bighorns averaging 10.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 26.7 minutes per game.

Webb is averaging 11.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 27.4 minutes per game in the G League for Delaware.

Webb went undrafted out of Boise State in 2016.

Rockets Sign R.J. Hunter To Two-Way Contract

The Houston Rockets have signed R.J. Hunter to a two-way contract.

Hunter has averaged 19.2 points in 29.8 minutes on 43.2 percent shooting with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets G League affiliate, this season.

Hunter will be able to have up to 22 days with the Rockets before they would have to convert his contract to a standard NBA contract if they wish to keep him with the team, rather than in the G League.

The Los Angeles Lakers plan on signing Gary Payton II to a two-way contract.

Payton was waived by the Bucks on Dec. 18th when they signed Sean Kilpatrick.

Payton had started six games for the Bucks.

Ten standouts from the 14th annual NBA G League Showcase were announced following the four-day event at the Hershey Centre and adjoining SportZone, home of Raptors 905, in Mississauga, Ontario.  The event featured each of the league’s 26 teams playing two regular-season games apiece.  

Earning first-team honors are guards Antonio Blakeney (Windy City Bulls), who notched 42 points, eight rebounds and eight assists during his second matchup in Mississauga, and Daniel Hamilton (Oklahoma City Blue) who logged a triple-double with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. Joining them are forwards Joel Bolomboy (Wisconsin Herd) and Johnathan Motley (Texas Legends), who averaged 25.5 points and 13.0 rebounds and 23.5 points and 16.0 rebounds, respectively. Rounding out the First Team is Amile Jefferson (Iowa Wolves) who scored 29 points and grabbed 15 boards to help the Wolves comeback from a 21-point deficit against the Canton Charge for a 100-97 victory in the team’s first contest.

Comprising the Second Team are guards Alex Caruso (South Bay Lakers) and Aaron Harrison (Reno Bighorns). Caruso helped South Bay to a 2-0 Showcase record, scoring 22 points, eight assists and five rebounds in his second matchup while Harrison averaged 21.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists. Joining them are forwards Kennedy Meeks (Raptors 905) and Mike Young (Northern Arizona Suns). Both Meeks (17.5 ppg, 13.5 rpg) and Young (16.0 ppg, 11.0 rpg) averaged double-doubles in their respective Showcase games. Center Christian Wood (Delaware 87ers) who notched 31 points and eight rebounds in the 87ers win against the Salt Lake City Stars, completes the Second Team.
