Danilo Gallinari has been diagnosed with a torn left meniscus. Gallinari was injured while playing for Italy in a World Cup Qualifier against Georgia on Saturday.

The extent of the tear has yet to be released. The chosen surgical options have also not been released. Meniscus tears have different ways they can be handled. Each comes with a different timeline for the player to return to playing.

Both the Italian National Team and Gallinari confirmed he will miss EuroBasket 2022, which is set to tip off next month.

Gallinari was signed to a two-year, $13.3 million contract this offseason by the Boston Celtics. The hope is Gallinari, along with fellow offseason pickup Malcolm Brogdon, will provide the bench production Boston was lacking in their NBA Finals loss to the Golden State Warriors.

A documentary on the 2008 U.S. men's basketball team will premiere on Netflix this fall.

"The Redeem Team" will debut Oct. 7 and is produced by LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

"The Redeem Team" is directed by Jon Weinbach, a producer on Netflix's 2020 documentary series on Michael Jordan's final season with the Chicago Bulls, "The Last Dance."

The German basketball federation are set to retire Dirk Nowitzki's No. 14 jersey on opening day of EuroBasket.

The ceremony will take place on September 1 before their group stage matchup against France.

“I felt honored above all when this idea was presented to me by the German federation,” Nowitzki said in a statement. “It was a nice surprise and I’m already excited about what awaits me in Cologne.”

Nowitzki's jersey retirement also represents the first time a national federation has retired a number. 

Milos Teodosic was cut from Serbia's roster ahead of the upcoming EuroBasket.

Teodosic last played in the NBA for the Clippers during the 2018-19 season, averaging 3.2 points. 

Serbia will also be without Aleksej Pokusevski and Nikola Jovic for the upcoming tournament. 

Goran Dragic discussed his excitement of playing for Slovenia alongside Luka Doncic at the upcoming EuroBasket.

"I will play a little less minutes, it will not be at that level. I don’t know how much I played, 36 minutes per game? Everything will depend on how I feel. The role will definitely be different. I was Batman, but now I’ll be Robin.

"The most important thing will be to make sure we have good chemistry and be a leader on the court and lift guys up when it’s most difficult," said Dragic over the weekend.

Dragic predicted a semifinals appearance for Slovenia. 

Dragic added that he had to convince the Bulls to play in EuroBasket, which begins at the start of September.

Slovenia won EuroBasket in 2017.

Goran Dragic announced that he will play for Slovenia at the upcoming EuroBasket.

Dragic, alongside Luka Doncic, lead Slovenia to the title in 2017.

Dragic was named MVP of the tournament.

Slovenia open their EuroBasket play against Lithuania on September 2.

Aleksej Pokusevski and Nikola Jovic were not given permission by the Oklahoma City Thunder and Miami Heat to represent Serbia at EuroBasket.

Bogdan Bogdanovic was also not called up due to his recovery from knee surgery. 

Nikola Jokic will play in the tournament, which begins on September 1. 

Victor Wembanyama will miss EuroBasket due to a muscle injury suffered in June.

Wembanyama is the projected No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft and the tournament would have been an opportunity to see him compete against NBA players.

Wembanyama was called to join training camp with the French teams, but doctors concluded he was not ready to play.
