LeBron James Won't Play In 3-On-3 At Olympics

Jun 11, 2017 8:29 PM

LeBron James is excited for 3-on-3 basketball to be in the Olympics but he has no plans to participate.

"I think it's great for basketball," James said Sunday. "For us to be able to add another category to the Olympics, another basketball category, I think it's pretty great. I haven't seen the full layout of how they plan on executing it; and are they going to use NBA guys or are going to use college guys?"

James won gold medals with Team USA in 2008 and 2012 and a bronze in 2004.

"I'm not very good in a three-on-three thing, I'm more of a five-on-five guy," James said. "I stay out of the one-on-one matchups during our practice, the two-on-twos and the three-on-threes. So probably not. I probably won't be a part of the three-on-three matchup that it has to offer."

3-On-3 Basketball Added To 2020 Olympics

Jun 9, 2017 11:27 AM

The IOC has added 3-on-3 basketball to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic program.

There will be 64 participants with eight teams for men and women.

FIBA President Horacio Muratore said: “The intensity and skill level of the 3x3 Game is such that there are no traditional 3x3 powerhouses and new countries have emerged since the first YOG experience in 2010. This was our main objective back in 2007. The decision provides FIBA with a renewed, strong incentive to continue in this direction and grow the game of basketball by developing new young skilled basketball talents in both genders across the globe from small islands to large countries in every continent.”
