Ben Simmons Won't Play In Tokyo Olympics

Ben Simmons will not participate in the Tokyo Olympics. for Australia 

Brian Goorjian said in a statement that he and Team Australia "understand and support his decision."

"The best thing for everybody right now is for him to go on and develop that skill package and improve in a couple of areas for his next season in the NBA, but the Boomers are always here for him. We wanted him to know that in his time of need, the culture and the guys here are behind him and support him," Goorjian said.

Simmons heads into an uncertain offseason following the Philadelphia 76ers' second round exit.

RJ Barrett, Andrew Wiggins, and Lu Dort headlined Canada's 12-player roster for the upcoming Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

The six-team tournament begins on Tuesday, June 29, with teams battling for one Olympic spot.

Other teams include Turkey, Greece, China, Czech Republic, and Uruguay.

Canada are coached by Nick Nurse.

Khris Middleton: Accepting Olympic Invite Was 'Easy Decision' Despite Playoff Run

Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday said that they remain focused on the Milwaukee Bucks playoff run despite accepting invites to play in the Tokyo Olympics. 

"We're in the middle of a championship run," said Middleton. "To take a second to think about something outside of this season, it was a little tough to think about it. But it was an easy decision for me to go ahead and commit."

The U.S. team is planning to arrive in Tokyo on July 21, with the first game starting on July 25.

If necessary, Game 7 of the NBA Finals would take place on July 22.

"I think I'm always focused on the immediate, what's happening right now. That's been my main focus, and it's going to continue to be that," added Holiday. "If we go the Finals or whatever happens, up until that point, this is what matters."

Monte Morris and OG Anunoby are two of 13 NBA players named to Nigeria's preliminary roster for the upcoming Olympics.

Nigeria, led by Mike Brown, begin training camp on June 20.

Eight current or former NBA players are set to make their debut for Nigeria, including Jahlil Okafor, Udoka Azubuike, KZ Okpala and Precious Achiuwa.

"I could go on and on in naming the contributions that each guy is bringing to the table for their teams, which is exciting for me, and it should be exciting for all of Nigeria, with the impact that they're having in the NBA, because they are the future of the program," said Brown.

Anthony Edwards will join USA Basketball's select team in Las Vegas, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The select team will practice and scrimmage against Team USA in July as part of the preparations for the Tokyo Olympics.

The full select roster will be finalized soon.

Erik Spoelstra will coach the select team.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the United States received commitments on Tuesday from Khris Middleton and Kevin Love. Love was a member of the 2012 team.

Chris Paul has declined an invitation after previous reported indicated he intended to commit.

Kyrie Irving, however, is unlikely to play as he recovers from his ankle injury suffered in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Irving last played for the United States in the 2016 Olympics.
