The salary cap for the 15-16 season could be as much as $2 million higher than initial projections.

The revenue numbers upon which the cap is based came in healthier than anticipated.

Teams have been operating on an estimated cap of $67.1 million for the 2015-16 season, but the National Basketball Players Association revealed at the annual agents' summit in Los Angeles this week that the actual cap is expected to come in at least $1 million higher, and perhaps as much as $2 million higher.

The official number won't be set until July 8th when the NBA audits will be completed.

The luxury-tax threshold, projected to be $81.6 million for the coming season, also is expected to be pegged at a significantly higher number, sources said.

Vivek Ranadive testified in court on Tuesday during the sixth day of a trial challenging the half-billion arena deal Ranadive and his co-investors struck with the city of Sacramento in 2014 to build a downtown arena.

"It was really an emotional decision," he said. "If I had actually done it based on the numbers, I would not have done it. I knew I would have to write large checks for a long period of time."

Ranadive was approached by David Stern about buying the Sacramento Kings to keep them from being sold to a group from Seattle.

"To this day, I couldn't tell you want that value is," he said. "It is just dirt right now; it is air. There is nothing there. I simply don't know."

Under questioning from the plaintiffs’ attorneys Tuesday morning, Ranadive likened the purchase of the team to buying a "piece of art," saying that there are only 30 teams in existence.

The Philadelphia 76ers were ordered to send the New Orleans Pelicans $3 million in compensation for not fully disclosing the injury history of Jrue Holiday, according to sources.

The 76ers traded Holiday on draft night of 2013 to the Pelicans for Nerlens Noel.

The sources said Holiday played with stress fractures in his lower right leg during his final season with the Sixers. However, the sources said, those injuries weren't fully disclosed to the Pelicans.

Sam Hinkie declined to comment, but a Sixers team source disputed the allegation.

"That's not true," the Sixers source said.

According to the other two sources, the Sixers are now trying to receive a payment from the Los Angeles Lakers for allegedly misinforming them about Andrew Bynum.

The Philadelphia 76ers are unlikely to face any punishment for possible violations of the "spirit" of the collective bargaining agreement.

RealGM's Shams Charania reported this week that the NBPA was investigating the situation.

The Sixers have approached their salary-cap requirements from a unique perspective in the last two seasons under Sam Hinkie and stayed within the technical framework of the agreement.

"They did not violate any rules, just the spirit of the rule," one league source said. "It's something the union will look to change for the future."

The Board of Governors recently voted to cut the NBA’s share of playoff gate from 50 to 25 percent, according to sources familiar with the vote.

The NBA will keep nearly all of that 25 percent to cover their postseason operating expenses, which will mean less free money for lottery teams. The league was previously dividing up the remainder of the gate among all 30 teams as a form of revenue sharing.

Host teams were only keeping about 25 percent of their playoff gate and if the home team closes a series in either Game 5 or Game 6, they have to give an extra share to the visiting team.

The 2015 NBA Finals recorded the highest viewership of any Finals since Michael Jordan's last season with the Chicago Bulls in 1998.

The series featured two medium sized markets in the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers, but two of the NBA's marquee players in Stephen Curry and LeBron James.

The six-game series averaged nearly 20 million viewers (19,939,000 P2+) and an 11.6 U.S. household rating, up 30 percent and 26 percent, respectively, from the 2014 NBA Finals (Miami-San Antonio).

Adam Silver said he doesn't have a "high level of concern" about a lockout in 2017 when the league and the players' union can opt out of the current collective bargaining agreement.

A lockout is a possibility as players look to negotiate more lucrative contracts once the league's new $24 billion TV deal with ESPN and Turner Broadcasting kicks in during the 2016-17 season.

"I think we have a very fair deal right now," Silver said Sunday during halftime of Game 5 of the Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers.

"I think the deal is designed to pay players a percentage of revenue so it self-adjusts as revenue goes up. And when the new television deal kicks in in 2016-17, the players are going to be averaging over $8 million a year.

"I think, again, it's a fair deal. If there's things they want to talk about, of course we'll talk about them. But I'm not overly concerned. I think we've got a great thing going right now. I think both sides recognize that."

LeBron James will express concerns this summer about how close photographers and videographers are to the basketball court.

"During the Players Association meetings in July, I'll have some points that will be announced," James told Northeast Ohio Media Group.

James hit his head on a camera during Game 4.

"While I appreciate and enjoy up-close action shots of game play, do they really need to be that close to the action?" Michele Roberts asked in a statement to NEOMG. "I am no techno geek, but haven't we evolved such that we can capture that action without being within inches of the game? Frankly for both the safety of the players and the camera men and women, we need to find a better solution."

Nike and the NBA have agreed upon an eight-year deal for the brand to become the league's official apparel provider.

The two sides were reportedly close to a deal in April.

Adidas will continue as the apparel provider until the 16-17 season.

The Nike swoosh will appear on the uniforms, which will be a first for the NBA.

“Nike will be instrumental in our collective efforts to grow the game globally while applying the latest in technology to the design of our uniforms and on-court products,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in the statement.

ESPN's Darren Rovell reports the deal is worth approximately $1 billion, which represents a 245 percent increase over the Adidas deal and $125 million annually.

For comparison sake, Adidas signed a 10-year deal with Manchester United last year worth $1.28 billion over ten years.

Game 1 of The NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers delivered a 12.9 overnight rating, making it the highest-rated Game 1 ever on ABC.

The broadcast peaked with a 15.6 from 11:30 p.m.-11:45 p.m. ET. 

The rating represents a 24 percent increase from Game 1 last season between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs.

Game 1 delivered a 41.4 rating in Cleveland and a 28.9 in San Francisco.
