The Houston Rockets released Isaiah Canaan just four days after signing him to a non-guaranteed contract.

Trevor Ariza was expected to be out three to four weeks, but he only missed four days, which led to the Rockets' unexpected reversal from Canaan.

"We're disappointed because I know Isaiah was really excited about getting back with the Rockets," Canaan's agent Mark Bartelstein said. "When they got the perimeter play of Trevor back, Daryl (Morey) the Rockets general manager called and said 'I don't think there's enough minutes for us to just justify using up our cap flexibility.'

"While we're disappointed, we understand it. If there's not an opportunity for Isaiah to play, they're so tight up against it, it, put them in a tough situation. They want to stay in close contact where if something were to happen with the roster and they have a need, I know he's the first guy they'll look at."

The Rockets are keeping their 15th roster spot open.

"It's pretty simple," Daryl Morey said. "Isaiah did nothing wrong, but we're obviously focused on the big picture. We're having to think down the road. We need to preserve all our flexibility. Unless someone is currently, actively on the floor or in the plan for it, hard to keep him on the roster."

The Toronto Raptors announced Sunday they have waived forward K.J. McDaniels.

McDaniels appeared in three preseason games, totaling six points, five rebounds and two blocks in 24 minutes. 

McDaniels was inactive for the first two games of the regular season.

Toronto’s roster now stands at 16 players.

The Denver Nuggets have released Jameer Nelson.

Nelson will become a free agent on Friday if he clears waivers.

The Nuggets released Nelson in order to create a roster spot for Richard Jefferson.

The Chicago Bulls have claimed Kay Felder off waivers.

Felder was traded last week by the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Atlanta Hawks and subsequently waived.

Felder was a second round pick by the Cavaliers in 2016.

The Indiana Pacers have waived forward Jarrod Uthoff. 

The Pacers roster now stands at 14 players; plus the team’s two players on two-way contracts, Alex Poythress and Edmond Sumner.

Uthoff went undrafted in 2016 out of Iowa and played nine games last season with the Dallas Mavericks.

The Detroit Pistons have waived guard Beno Udrih.

Udrih did not appear in any games with the Pistons this preseason.

The 13-year NBA veteran averaged 5.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 14.4 minutes in 39 games with Detroit last season.

The Milwaukee Bucks have requested waivers on Gerald Green.

Originally signed to a contract on Sept. 24, Green appeared in four preseason games for the Bucks and averaged 4.0 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.0 steal per contest.

The Bucks roster stands at 14 players.

The New Orleans Pelicans have waived forwards Cliff Alexander and Perry Jones.

Alexander, 6-8, 245, appeared in all four of the Pelicans’ preseason contests, averaging 2.3 points and 3.8 rebounds in just under nine minutes per game.

Jones, 6-11, 235, appeared in three preseason games for New Orleans and averaged 3.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists in just over 15 minutes per contest.

The Philadelphia 76ers have waived James Blackmon Jr., Kris Humphries and Emeka Okafor.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have waived Amile Jefferson, Melo Trimble and Shawne Williams.

Jefferson appeared in one preseason game for Minnesota totaling one rebound in four minutes of action. The Wolves originally signed Jefferson on September 18, 2017.

Trimble registered four points and one rebound in his lone appearance this preseason. Trimble was originally signed by the Wolves on September 18, 2017.

Williams was signed by Minnesota on October 13, 2017.
