Lopez is having the finest season of his career after signing an offseason maximum contract with the Brooklyn Nets.
The NBA has invited Kyrie Irving, Kenneth Faried, Brandon Knight, Kawhi Leonard, Chandler Parsons, Klay Thompson, Tristan Thompson, Nikola Vucevic and Kemba Walker as the sophomore in the 2013 Rising Stars Game.
The rookies are led by Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, Harrison Barnes, Andre Drummond, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Bradley Beal, Alexey Shved, Dion Waiters and Tyler Zeller.
Ricky Rubio, Terrence Ross, Jimmy Butler and Jared Sullinger are amongst the notable omissions for the game.
A roster spot on the Eastern Conference All-Star team has opened up with the loss of Rajon Rondo for the rest of the season to a torn ACL injury.
NBA commissioner David Stern will decide who replace Rondo and become an All-Star.
The Brooklyn Nets hope Brook Lopez, Deron Williams, or Joe Johnson will be named to the team.
“I’m equal opportunity,” said interim coach P.J. Carlesimo. “I just hope it’s one of our three guys. Obviously, I don’t want to be the one to pick, but honestly I don’t know what the commissioner is going to do. I don’t know what will guide him in his decision.”
Brook Lopez has emerged as the leading candidate amongst the trio to obtain the All-Star berth. Lopez leads all NBA centers in field goals made (7.42), points per game (18.58), and PER (25.72).
“An All-Star bid is an All-Star bid so it still would be an honor,” said Lopez. “That being said, I know there’s a lot of deserving guys who didn’t get their names called and we’ll see what happens. I’m not really going to be paying attention to it. I’m focused on helping this team win.”
Williams also vouched for Lopez to earn the final All-Star spot.
“He’s an All-Star this year,” said Williams. “It’s just unfortunate because everybody that’s on the team deserved to be on the team, but now there’s a spot so there’s still a chance that he can get in.”
MILWAUKEE – Stephen Curry has been extended an invitation from the NBA to participate in the three-point shootout during next month’s All-Star weekend, but he’s debating whether to head to Houston for just one event.
“It would be a big commitment heading down there for one event so I’m figuring out if I’m going to make that commitment,” Curry told RealGM on Saturday night.
Curry is adamant he has moved past his All-Star snub after the coaches failed to select him as a reserve on Thursday. If an injury replacement is needed on the Western Conference team, Curry will almost assuredly be a top option for commissioner David Stern.
Curry, who was in the 2010 three-point contest, is having a career season, averaging 21 points and 6.5 assists while leading the Golden State Warriors to a 26-17 record.

Fifteen teams have at least one All-Star (Knicks, Heat, Celtics, Bulls, Pacers, 76ers, Blazers, Spurs, Rockets, Warriors and Grizzlies), while 15 teams do not have a representative (Hawks, Nets, Bobcats, Mavericks, Nuggets, Pistons, Bucks, Wolves, Hornets, Magic, Suns, Kings, Raptors, Jazz and Wizards).
The 76ers and Cavaliers each sent a Coaches Vote All-Star despite a losing record, while the Lakers and Celtics have two starters despite a sub-.500 record.
The Nets, Hawks, Bucks, Nuggets and Jazz all have a record over .500 and no All-Stars.
The All-Star starters are LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Garnett, Dwyane Wade, Rajon Rondo, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard and Chris Paul.
The NBA has announced its starters for the 2013 All-Star Game.
Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul are the starting guards for the Western Conference with the frontcourt consisting of Kevin Durant, Dwight Howard and Blake Griffin.
On the Eastern Conference team are LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo.
Bryant was the leading vote-getter, narrowly beating James.
Only six NBA teams are represented of the 10 starters.
Anderson Varejao was on pace to have an excellent shot at an All-Star selection this season before his injury.
Varejao reportedly had a $1 million contract bonus had he been named to the All-Star Game.
Jrue Holiday is putting together an impressive resume to make his first All-Star Game, particularly with other point guards in the Eastern Conference either injured or struggling.
"People ask me if I would like to make the All-Star team," he said. "I mean, seriously, who wouldn't? I guess I really don't think about it. Going into games, it's not like I'm thinking about scoring or doing other things for me individually. I really just try to go out and win every game, and if that means me scoring two points and Nick [Young] scoring 30 or Dorell [Wright] scoring 15, as long as we get the win I'm happy."
Holiday currently ranks eighth in voting amongst Eastern Conference guards.
"I don't keep an eye on the voting," he said. "I can't, because I'd be mad, because I'm a competitor and there's probably people ahead of me I feel I'm better than, but I know they have more votes than I do. It could be popularity, whatever it is. I can't look at it."
