Vander Blue Named D-League Player Of The Week

Vander Blue of the Los Angeles D-Fenders today was named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played Monday, Dec. 19, through Sunday, Dec. 25.

Blue (6-4, Marquette) led Los Angeles to a 3-0 week, averaging a league-best 29.0 points on 52.2 percent shooting to go with 7.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals. On Dec. 19, he made a franchise-record 17 free throws on his way to 32 points in a 114-106 victory over the Long Island Nets. On Dec. 22, he tallied season highs with 33 points and 12 rebounds in a 99-92 win over the Greensboro Swarm, his first double-double of the season.

Blue is averaging 23.3 points on 47.4 percent shooting, 4.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals on the season. He has scored at least 30 points in three of his last four games. Blue was a member of the 2016 All-NBA D-League First Team and has been selected to the NBA D-League All-Star Game the past two seasons.

Other top performers considered included Northern Arizona’s Elijah Millsap, Oklahoma City’s Alex Caruso and Texas’ Pierre Jackson.

Chasson Randle Named D-League Player Of The Week

Chasson Randle of the Westchester Knicks today was named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played Monday, Dec. 12, through Sunday, Dec. 18.

Randle (6-3, Stanford) led Westchester to a 2-1 week, averaging 28.7 points (fourth in the league) on 51.8 percent shooting, including 17-of-29 from behind the arc, to go with 4.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.3 steals. On Dec. 16, he scored a season-high 38 points on 12-of-19 shooting to go with four rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 132-124 victory over the Texas Legends. Randle’s nine three-pointers in in the game set a franchise record. On Dec. 18, he hit seven threes on his way to 36 points in a 120-106 win over the Austin Spurs.

Randle is averaging 22.3 points on 43.4 percent shooting, 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He was acquired by Westchester as an affiliate player of the New York Knicks before the season after playing last year in the Czech Republic.

Keith Benson of the Sioux Falls Skyforce today was named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played Monday, Dec. 5, through Sunday, Dec. 11.

Benson led Sioux Falls to a 3-1 week, averaging 18.5 points on 57.4 percent shooting to go with 13.3 rebounds (third in the league) and a league-best 4.3 blocks. He registered a point-rebound double-double in each of his four games. On Dec. 5, he tallied a season-high 25 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks in a 124-116 victory over the Long Island Nets. On Dec. 9, he scored 19 points to go with 13 rebounds and a season-high six blocks in a 101-81 loss to the Raptors 905.

Benson is averaging 17.8 points, 11.0 rebounds (second in the league) and a league-best 3.5 blocks this season. 

Other top performers considered included Fort Wayne’s Trey McKinney-Jones, Maine’s Jalen Jones, Northern Arizona’s Elijah Millsap, Oklahoma City’s Dakari Johnson, Reno’s Lamar Patterson, Rio Grande Valley’s Darius Morris, Texas’ Pierre Jackson and Windy City’s Aaron Thomas.

Gary Payton II of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers has been named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played Monday, Nov. 28, through Sunday, Dec. 4.

Payton II (6-3, 190, Oregon State) helped Rio Grande Valley to a 2-0 week behind averages of 33.0 points (second in the league), 10.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals. On Dec. 1, he had 15 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals in a 103-83 win over the Reno Bighorns. He closed his week on Dec. 3, scoring an NBA D-League season-high 51 points on 20-of-29 shooting to go with 11 rebounds and three assists in a 140-125 victory over the Los Angeles D-Fenders.

Payton II is averaging 16.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals in his first NBA D-League season. He also has four double-doubles in nine games.

Other top performers considered included Erie’s TJ Price, Fort Wayne’s Travis Leslie, Maine’s Demetrius Jackson, Northern Arizona’s Derrick Jones Jr., Oklahoma City’s Dakari Johnson, Sioux Falls’ Briante Weber, Texas’ Pierre Jackson and Windy City’s Aaron Thomas.

Dakari Johnson Named D-League Player Of The Month

Oklahoma City Blue center Dakari Johnson has been named the NBA Development League Player of the Month for games played in November. The honor, the first of the 2016-17 season, is also the first of Johnson’s NBA D-League career.

Johnson (7-0, Kentucky) led Oklahoma City to a 6-3 record behind averages of 19.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 blocked shots (tied for fourth in the NBA D-League). He scored at least 20 points in six games and tallied four point-rebound double-doubles.

On Nov. 26, he recorded 20 points (on 7-for-11 shooting from the field) to go with six rebounds and a career-high five blocks in a 107-104 victory over the Canton Charge. Johnson closed the month by scoring a career-high 28 points, grabbing a season-high-tying 11 rebounds and handing out a season-high five assists in a 117-108 loss to the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Nov. 29.

Other players who received consideration for the monthly award were Austin’s Patricio Garino, Fort Wayne’s Julyan Stone, Grand Rapids’ Ray McCallum and Kevin Murphy, Los Angeles’ Justin Harper, Maine’s Jalen Jones, Westchester’s Chasson Randle and Windy City’s Spencer Dinwiddie.
