Coaches Likely To Keep Challenge If Successful Next Season

Feb 28, 2023 12:39 AM

The most likely rule change for next season is coaches keeping their challenge if successful, sources told Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.

The primary concern for challenges remains keeping games at around 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Pincus adds that the league could also implement a target score for overtime next year, with responses generally favorable among league personnel.

With the G League currently experimenting with target scores, the length of overtimes has decreased from 13 minutes to 8.5 minutes.

Kevin Love Has Strained Relationship With Cavs Front Office

Feb 23, 2023 11:21 PM

Kevin Love's relationship with the Cleveland Cavaliers front office is currently strained, sources told Chris Fedor of cleveland.com.

Love was yanked from the Cavs rotation in the lead up to his buyout request last week, with the forward eventually signing with the Heat.

The Cavs were growing uneasy with Love's growing unhappiness while sitting on the bench and were willing to buy him out to prevent a potential blowout.

J.B Bickerstaff said he reached out to Love after the buyout, though has yet to hear back.

Jae Crowder To Make Bucks Debut After All-Star Break

Feb 14, 2023 1:42 AM

Jae Crowder won't make his Milwaukee Bucks debut until after the All-Star break, Mike Budenholzer said on Monday.

Crowder, who has yet to suit up this season, was initially traded from the Suns to the Nets in the Kevin Durant deal, then traded again to the Bucks before the trade deadline.

Crowder did not specify his rift with the Suns on Monday.

"I just feel like it's behind me now. We had some stuff happen internally that they asked me to keep inside, so I'm going to grant their wishes.

"Obviously I've been working with these guys for a trade partner for months now. I think give or take they did exactly what they said they was going to do," said Crowder.

NBCUniversal To Make 'Strong Bid' For NBA Rights

Feb 14, 2023 1:15 AM

NBCUniversal is reportedly planning to make a "strong bid" for NBA streaming rights, sources told Alex Sherman of CNBC.

NBCUniversal executives have made their interest known to league circles. NBC Sports is looking to air playoff games on NBC, with some regular season games exclusive to its streaming service Peacock.

The NBA could instead force companies to simulcast all games on streaming to increase its reach.

No formal discussions can take place with non-incumbent bidders, unless Warner Bros. Discovery and Disney waive their exclusive negotiating window, until April 2024.

Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery own NBA streaming rights through the 2024-25 season.

The league is likely to create one or two new packages for bidders and could have up to four media rights partners.

Arturas Karnisovas On Keeping Nikola Vucevic: We Want Him Here

Feb 10, 2023 1:25 AM

Chicago Bulls vice president Arturas Karnisovas gave a vote of confidence to Nikola Vucevic's future with the team after standing pat at the trade deadline.

"He's having an unbelievable year and we want him to be here. I think for this group, that was important. Now that the trade deadline has passed, this is the group that we're sticking with and they can go out there, play, put their foot on the gas and go on a run," said Karnisovas on Thursday.

Vucevic is currently in the final year of a four-year, $100 million deal he signed in 2019.

The Bulls were one of two teams in the league to not make any deals at the trade deadline.

Karnisovas was optimistic that the team could move up the standings this season.

"I think the trade deadline shifted some quality more towards West, so there's a chance to compete in the Eastern Conference and there's a lot of teams that are pretty good, but they're just clinched all together. I think there's a chance the next 28 games."
