Findings On USC Coming Friday

May 30, 2010 5:31 PM

The NCAA committee on infractions will release its findings regarding the USC basketball and football programs on Friday, according to a source.

The NCAA infractions committee held a hearing in February in which USC presented its responses to allegations of several violations.

ESPN's "Outside the Lines" reported in May 2008 that former basketball player O.J. Mayo accepted cash and gifts -- extra benefits -- from Rodney Guillory, who was connected to Bill Duffy Associates Sports Management.

UConn, Calhoun Cited For 8 Violations

May 28, 2010 3:05 PM

The NCAA has accused the men's basketball program at the University of Connecticut of eight major rules violations.

Jim Calhoun didn't do enough to monitor his assistants, according to the accusations.

The school released its notice of allegation letter Friday following a 15-month investigation into the recruiting of former player Nate Miles.

The violations include improper phone calls and text messages to recruits, giving recruits improper benefits and improperly distributing free tickets to high school coaches and others.

Calhoun was cited for failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance.

"It's not exactly, certainly anywhere near the high point of my career, as a matter of fact it's certainly one of the lowest points at any time that you are accused of doing something," said Calhoun. "It's a very serious matter."

Calipari Tells Top Recruit He's Staying At Kentucky

May 18, 2010 8:14 AM

Top Kentucky recruit Brandon Knight says coach John Calipari spoke with him about all the rumors linking him to the NBA's Chicago Bulls.

"He said he's not leaving and that he'll be there," Knight said. "I'm not really worried. Even if he does decide to leave, that won't ruin the whole situation for me."

Knight announced last month that he was verbally committing to Kentucky.

"It's a little bit weird to see all of this [in the news], but that's part of basketball," said Knight. "But if it happens, I'll weigh my options."

Duke Will Change Offense To Accommodate Kyrie Irving

May 12, 2010 4:41 PM

Mike Krzyzewski says the addition of Kyrie Irving will transform the team's entire offense.

"We'll change our whole offense, the way we play because of Kyrie," Krzyzewski said Wednesday.

"Just like we did when we had Jason Williams, he'll make a big impact right away. He's going to be very, very good."

Krzyzewski said Irving will benefit from the return of Singler and junior guard Nolan Smith to a core that also includes big men Miles and Mason Plumlee and guard Seth Curry.

"We'll run a lot more, we'll press and he's fortunate to have Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler on the perimeter with him and the Plumlees," Krzyzewski said. "He'll have good weapons with him."
