Michael Gbinije Commits To Syracuse

Michael Gbinije has committed to transfer to Syracuse.

Gbinije played one season at Duke while receiving limited playing time.

Gbinije played with Syracuse freshmen Rakeem Christmas and Michael Carter-Williams in the 2011 Jordan Brand Classic. He also knew Trevor Cooney from the 2010 Nike Global Challenge.

Jim Boeheim and Mike Krzyzewski have known each other for years, with the former assisting the latter on the Olympic teams.

“They talked to each other about me,’’ Gbinije said. “Coach K’s a really good person. He gave a good word for me.’’

Michael Gbinije has received interest from VCU, Marquette, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Villanova and Rutgers.

Gbinije opted to transfer after averaging 1.7 points and 0.8 rebounds during his freshman season at Duke.

The 6-foot-6 swinman was a top-30 prospect in the class of 2011.

Former Xavier guard Mark Lyons is set to visit Kansas, Arizona, and Kentucky, his prep school coach, Jason Smith, confirmed.

Lyons, a 6-foot-1 combo guard, averaged 15.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists last season at Xavier.

Josiah Turner, once regarded as one of the top two point guards in the country, is considering transferring to St. John’s.

Turner is leaving Arizona after averaging 6.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists during his freshman season.

The 6-foot-3 guard will have to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer rules.

Rodney is planning a recruiting visit to Ohio State, his father, Ricky, confirmed.

Hood, rated as a top 30 prospect in the class of 2011, recently opted to transfer from Mississippi State after averaging 10.3 points and 4.8 rebounds during his freshman season.

Hood played AAU basketball with Ohio State freshman LaQuinton Ross.

Oriakhi Transfers To Missouri

Alex Oriakhi has committed to play for Missouri.

“We’re very excited to add a talented and proven player like Alex to our program,” Haith said in a statement. “Addressing our frontcourt depth has been a major emphasis of ours for this next year, and when you add Alex to a group of newcomers including Stefan Jankovic, Ryan Rosburg and Tony Criswell, we are definitely heading the right direction.”

Oriakhi, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound power forward, averaged 6.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 21.5 minutes per game as a junior at UConn this past season.

He will be eligible to play at the start of next season.

Josiah Turner Transferring From Arizona

Josiah Turner has decided to leave Arizona and will transfer to another school.

"I learned a lot in my year at Arizona and would like to thank my coaches, teammates and the fans for all of their support," Turner said in a statement.

Turner, who averaged 6.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 29 games, has not decided which school he will attend next.

He was a top-20 overall prospect in the class of 2011.

Oriakhi Trims List To Four

Alex Oriakhi, a junior forward who received his release from UConn last month, has narrowed his list of transfer schools to North Carolina, Missouri, Kentucky and Xavier.

Oriakhi previously considered Duke, Ohio State, and UNC-Charlotte.

He isn’t expected to make a decision until late April.
