Lakers Pursuing Significantly More Cap Space

Jun 30, 2015 7:32 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers are attempting to create significantly more salary cap space to pursue free agent deals to both LaMarcus Aldridge and DeAndre Jordan.

ESPN's Kevin Pelton writes that the Lakers would have to trade away everyone on their roster short of Kobe Bryant to create enough space to sign both Aldridge and Jordan to their full max contracts.

The Lakers could conceivably sign Aldridge and Jordan to two-year deals with a second-year player option for below the max and then sign both players in 2016 to max deals using cap space. The Lakers will not have Bird Rights for either player.

Porzingis Questionable For Summer League With Hip Injury, Receives Call From Carmelo

Jun 30, 2015 10:41 AM

Carmelo Anthony reached out directly to Kristaps Porzingis following reports of his disapproval of the pick by the New York Knicks on draft night.

"Carmelo reached out to Kris after all of that. It was beautiful that a player of that profile can do something like that. It's great," Porzingis' older brother, Janis, said Monday during an appearance on ESPN 98.7 FM's "The Hahn and Humpty Show."

On Friday night, Anthony wrote on Instagram that Porzingis was "a steal" and that he "can't wait" to see him play.

Janis Porzingis also said in Monday's interview that his brother has been dealing with a hip injury that has prohibited him from working out in recent days. Kristaps Porzingis' workout with the Knicks on June 22 was cut short because of the hip ailment, which Janis described as "tightness."

Porzingis could miss the beginning of Summer League.

Hawks, DeAndre Kane Commit To Summer League, Plan To Discuss Possible Deal In July

Jun 19, 2015 12:50 AM

After private workouts this week, the Atlanta Hawks and guard DeAndre Kane have reached a summer league agreement for Las Vegas and plan to discuss further on a possible deal in July, league sources told RealGM.

Kane, a former stand out at Iowa State, spent the past few days working out in Atlanta and settled upon a potential future with the Hawks. Now, Atlanta will integrate the 6-foot-4 product into their summer program and Kane will attempt to increase his stock in dialogue through performances in summer league.

The NBA's free agency period doesn't begin until July 1.

In 40 games with Antwerp in Belgium and Krasny in the Eurocup, Kane averaged 12.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 44 percent from the field. Kane, 26, had his strongest stretch during the EuroChallenge with Antwerp, scoring 14.4 points along with 5.7 rebounds and five assists.

As a recruit of Fred Hoiberg at Iowa State, Kane had averages of 17.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists in his senior year. The Chicago Bulls had a level of interest in Kane, sources said, but his workouts in Atlanta led to a commitment Thursday night.

Kane went to summer league with the Los Angeles Lakers a year ago after going unselected in the 2014 NBA draft. He spent his first three college seasons at Marshall.

Royce White Close With Clippers On Summer League Commitment

Jun 5, 2015 1:51 PM

Royce White is closing on a commitment to join the Los Angeles Clippers to make his NBA comeback in the July Summer League, league sources told RealGM.

White has considered interest from several organizations, including the Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs and New Orleans Pelicans, but gained trust with the Clippers’ front office through dialogue with brass members.

White is nearing a commitment to the Clippers, but the 6-foot-8 forward will stay away from signing any sort of free-agent deal in order to showcase himself for the NBA’s other 29 teams. He has spent the year training in Minnesota with trainer Chris Carr.

The No. 16 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, White has logged three games in the NBA with the Sacramento Kings in 2014. Along with the Kings, White has spent time on the roster of the Philadelphia 76ers and his drafted team, the Houston Rockets.

White, 24, was a tremendous two-way talent coming out of Iowa State as a sophomore, but became the league’s face for anxiety issues. Still, White has made clear he has no fear or issues with flying, but rather a previous preference to travel via road when possible.
