The Seattle SuperSonics discussed trying to sign forward Derrick McKey, who was waived by the Indiana Pacers earlier this week.

But in the end, they decided against pursuing the former Sonic because they did not want to take away any of their young players' opportunities to get time on the court and valuable minutes.

"We're keeping an open mind," Sonics general manager Rick Sund said. "But we have a situation where we have two guys on the injured list (Peja Drobnjak and Shammond Williams) who are going to be coming back. And through training camp, we like the young guys we have, and their development. So right now we are kind of in a holding pattern."

McKey was one of the most popular players on the Sonics when he was traded to the Pacers for Detlef Schrempf in the beginning of the 1993-94 season.
