Frank Hughes of the Tacoma News Tribune reports: Seattle SuperSonics power forward Vin Baker suffered what he called torn ligaments in his thumb Friday night, an injury that could cost him several weeks of playing time.

Following the Sonics' 111-108 overtime victory over the Golden State Warriors, Baker emerged in tears from the team's training room, accompanied by agent Aaron Goodwin, with his thumb bandaged.

"They think it's torn ligaments," Baker said.

Baker had X-rays at the Arena at Oakland, and team trainer Mike Shimensky did not think the thumb was broken.

However, Baker might have torn ligaments in his right thumb, which could be confirmed this morning when he sees Sonics team orthopedist Richard Zorn.

The Sonics and Goodwin declined to speculate on exactly how long Baker would be sidelined.

But a physician at the arena who did not examine Baker said torn thumb ligaments generally mean a player could miss "months."
