Marc J. Spears of the Denver Post reports: Denver Nuggets point guard Chris Whitney could be jumping ship from a team in last place to a playoff contender.

With Thursday's trade for fellow point guard Shammond Williams, Whitney's minutes are likely to decline so the Nuggets can take a look a closer look at Williams.

So, on Thursday, the Nuggets gave his agent, Steve Kaufmann, permission to talk to other teams about his client.

The 6-foot, 175-pound Whitney is hopeful he can be waived as early as Monday to begin the process of latching on with another NBA team.

In order to be eligible for the playoffs, Whitney would have to be waived by Saturday.

"There is interest in me from championship and playoff caliber teams," Whitney, 32, said. "I am going to weigh my options. If someone wants to make a move, then I'll talk to the Nuggets. (The Nuggets) said they would do everything to accomodate me out of respect.

"That is a classy thing that they would do for me. When I first got here, (forward) Juwan (Howard) said they were a classy organization, and now I see that."
