Even before knee surgery ended Sean May's season Charlotte coach Sam Vincent suggested the team sign another veteran big man, mentioning free agents Michael Ruffin and Marc Jackson as possibilities. Ruffin signed with Milwaukee, but Jackson (most recently a New Orleans Hornet) appears to be available.

Vincent said he spoke with managing partner Michael Jordan, vice president Bernie Bickerstaff and general manager Rod Higgins about the situation. If the regular season started today, Ryan Hollins -- a second-round pick last season -- would start at center.

"Everybody is sensitive to the fact that we're short(handed) in the frontcourt," Vincent said. "They'll do whatever they can to give us some relief, but it may take a little time."
