Shawne Williams wants to remain with the Pacers despite recent comments by President Larry Bird that the forward is on thin ice, according to The Indianapolis Star.

Bird said two weeks ago that Williams would be traded if the Pacers could get something significant in return.

"I just hope the thin ice don't break," Williams said. "I'm going to do everything in my power to keep it thin and try to thicken it up a little bit."

Williams endured a pair of brushes with the law this past season and claims he understands where Bird is coming from.

"He's got a job to do, and I've got a job to do. I didn't lose no respect for Larry," Williams said. "He's just doing his job. And he's right."

He hopes to not only win back the team's executives but also remain in good standing with the fans.

"I feel like I still have fans cheering for me when I come out (on the court). I'm not getting booed," Williams said.

"I feel like I earned the fans back a little bit. I just have to stay out of trouble and keep a clean nose."
