The Blazers believe that they have devised a plan that will slow down Rockets center Yao Ming in their first-round playoff series.

Portland wants to mix defensive coverage and make it harder for Yao to get the ball in the low post, something they were unable to do in Game 1 when he scored 24 points in 24 minutes of action.

"There were a lot of things we didn't do (Saturday)," Blazers coach Nate McMillan said. "There were certain spots where if Yao gets deep post position, we're not supposed to let him catch it. We were supposed to front him and on the pick-and-roll there were certain things we were supposed do, but we just didn't do them."

The adjustment can't be as simple as double teaming Yao, because he's more than capable of passing to open shooters like Luis Scola, Ron Artest and Aaron Brooks.

"We just have to play more aggressively and do whatever we can to stop him," Portland center Greg Oden said. "We have to be more physical."
