Jason Kidd was fired by the Bucks as head coach in January and he's in the midst of his longest period away from basketball in his entire adult life.

Kidd went directly from his playing career to head coach of the Nets in 2013.

"It's been nice," Kidd said. "I'm not going to sit here and tell you it hasn't been nice. Because I can sleep, I don't have as many headaches. But it's actually been nice to wake up and not have to worry about a scheme, or if someone's going to make a shot, or rebound the ball."

Kidd has a 183-190 career record as a coach.

"I love coaching," Kidd said. "Coaching is fun. And it's hard."

Industry sources say there will be at least six to eight teams searching for a new head coach this offseason and possibly as many as 10. Kidd is expected to be a candidate for several of the openings.
