The Toronto Raptors have fired Dwane Casey as head coach.

Casey was hired by the Raptors in 2011.

The Raptors had the best record in the Eastern Conference during the 17-18 season but were eliminated by the Cavaliers in the second round in four games.

The Raptors reached the playoffs in each of the past five seasons.

“After careful consideration, I have decided this is a very difficult but necessary step the franchise must take. As a team, we are constantly trying to grow and improve in order to get to the next level,” Masai Ujiri said. “We celebrate everything Dwane has done for the organization, we thank him, and we wish him nothing but the best in future. He was instrumental in creating the identity and culture of who we are as a team, and we are so proud of that.”

Casey had one year remaining on his contract at $6 million.
