The NBA is open to the idea of regional pods and intraconference scheduling to lessen team travel and exposure to the coronavirus, sources told ESPN.

The league is also considering releasing the schedule in halves to increase flexibility that would allow for postponements that are likely inevitable with COVID-19 outbreaks.

While the NBA is hopeful of playing games with fans in home arenas during the 20-21 season, they have also explored a bubble environment similar to what Major League Baseball used for its playoffs.

The NBA may use an extended midseason break to offer rest for players, or to make up games lost to the virus in lieu of its customary All-Star Game in February.

The NBA is hoping to start the season in December to return to its normal calendar for the 21-22 season.
