The job of Frank Vogel as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers has been in peril for months, even dating back to his one-year contract extension in August.
"Few coaching figures hold optimism Vogel will still be manning the Lakers sideline come 2022-23," writes Jake Fischer at Bleacher Report.
The next head coach of the Lakers will likely have prior head coaching experience. During the previous cycle, the Lakers also targeted Monty Williams and Tyronn Lue but were unable to get an agreement done with either head coach.
Jason Kidd was also a candidate and eventually was hired as an assistant coach before the departed the Lakers for the Dallas Mavericks last offseason.
Vogel helped guide the Lakers to the 2020 championship in his first season with the team.
