The Los Angeles Lakers discussed a Kyrie Irving trade with the Brooklyn Nets on Friday and Saturday, but were unable to gain traction. The Lakers were offering a package around Russell Westbrook and a pair of future first round picks, while the Nets wanted additional young players and a pick swap.

The Lakers needed the involvement of a third team in order to get Brooklyn the 

"I think it was harder for Brooklyn to do a one-on-one deal with the Lakers without getting a third team involved to get the kind of pieces they got... Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, who fit into the Nets' lineup right now," said Adrian Wojnarowski on Monday morning.

"I think for Brooklyn to win now and to get those draft picks to shop and move. They had a deal, in their minds, that made more sense in Dallas than a Lakers' deal that was again harder to do one-on-one and get the kind of pieces they want to plug in right now."
