The Dallas Mavericks signed JaVale McGee last offseason to a three-year, $17.2 million contract that quickly appeared to be a mistake.
Sources say signing McGee had been prioritized by Jason Kidd, but he was benched eight games into the season. McGee and Kidd had familiarity with each other during their time together with the Los Angeles Lakers.
McGee has two seasons remaining on his contract.
