Knicks forward Amar'e Stoudemire's availability for the World Championships was thrown into doubt on Monday.

Sources told ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan that Stoudemire's contract with New York may not be insured to allow him to play in a FIBA competition.

The news is a blow to Team USA and to the Knicks, who signed Stoudemire to a five-year, $99.8 million contract earlier this month.

Team USA is expected to hold it's first practice on Tuesday and more is expected to surface regarding Stoudemire.
