Iona senior Scott Machado had a career high 33 points and 10 assists in Iona’s 104-99 double-overtime win over Saint Joseph’s.

Machado is averaging 19.8 points and 12.8 assists per game during the first four games of the 11-12 season. Machado averaged 13.1 points and 7.6 assists per game last season.

“He’s the next Jason Kidd,” said teammate Mike Glover to the New York Daily News. Glover had 34 points in the game.

Machado has a double-double in each of Iona’s first four games.

“I think whenever you have a point guard like Machado you can do an awful lot of things,” said Saint Joseph’s head coach Phil Martelli. “I wouldn’t have bet you he could go 4-for-6 from three, but that kind of senior point guard play can pay significant dividends for their team.”

Machado had had a hand in 55.7% of Iona’s total buckets this season, whether as the scorer or assist man.
