The Pistons officially waived Richard Hamilton on Monday, setting the stage for him to sign a two-year, $10 million deal with the Bulls, likely on Wednesday. The waiver process takes 48 hours.

Hamilton will compete for the starting job at shooting guard.

"No matter who they bring in, it's going to be a fight in training camp," Ronnie Brewer said. "We're going to push each other and make each other better at that 2 spot."

Brewer played well in the postseason and has continued that upward trend thus far in camp.

"He's played well," coach Tom Thibodeau said. "He's in great shape and he's healthy. So that's the biggest difference. Last summer, he was recovering from his hamstring injury. He came into camp not in great shape and unsure.
