David Stern said he plans to discuss his 23-and-younger proposal with FIBA, and he sees no reason to set a timetable for getting a deal done.

"Nothing is definitive," Stern said. "All we're talking about is the issue, having taken stock 20 years after Barcelona. What is the best way to continue the growth of the game on a global basis?"

Several players have voiced their dismay with the 23-and-under concept floated by Stern.

"This is not an urgent issue," said Stern. "This is just an opportunity to have an intelligent conversation with our friends at FIBA (international basketball's governing body)."
